National Division I Championship: Mount Cameroon FC Stop Astre's Winning Train

By Innocent Mbunwe

Mount Cameroon FC of Buea a.k.a Lava Boys, Wednesday, April 27, at the Molyko Omnisport Stadium, stopped Astre of Douala a.k.a the Brazilians from Bepanda, Douala from dancing the samba dance at their pace, by playing a goalless draw. It was one of Day Seven actions of the National Division I Championship.Football

Astre that had won their six matches, scoring 18 points, were held to a zero all tie.The action packed encounter that was witnessed by thousands of fans from Buea and Douala was full of flair and finesse.

Mount Cameroon dominated the game for the first 15 minutes while Astre were still studying the terrain. Astre coach, Tonye Tonye after mastering the play style of his opponents, changed tactics. It became a balanced match.

At the 28th minute, Astre benefited from a free kick through a rough tackle, that was right footed above the cross bar.22-shirted player for Mount Cameroon at the 35th minute received the first yellow card for foul play.

Astre again at the 40th minute, through a superlative inter-positional passes, mesmerised Mount Cameroon defence line but squandered the chance.

Upon resumption, Astre became more aggressive. The match was temporarily halted after ten minutes into the second half when Mount Cameroon players attempted to seize a purportedly fetish substance from Ncha, player of Astre and a former player of Victoria United.

Only the intervention of the referee, Mezing Agar, doused the tension.
Mount Cameroon striker, Mba Jama, overburdened Astre defence and supplied dazzling passes that were not made used of.

Mount Cameroon coach, Theodore Nkwetchou, substituted Mba Jama with Atancho at the 64th minute. Atancho, three minutes later, right footed a right flank cross above the crossbar.

The encounter took a different twist at the 73 minutes with Mount Cameroon putting pressure on the visitors.

Reactions

At the close of the game, Tonye Tonye, Coach, Astre was serene; "We must not necessarily win all our matches. Our goal is to win our matches. That is football.

We will be better in the days ahead."Kongso, Mount Cameroon Vice President, "We are not quiet disappointed because we dominated the match. From start to end and it was very encouraging."
