Vox pop on Cameroon/Egypt Encounter

Compiled By Chris Mbunwe, Clovis Atatah, Olive Ejang, Nana Walter Wilson, & Francis Tim Mbom

National Mourning If Cameroon Lose

It would be 3-0 in favour of Cameroon. Eto'o Fils and Achille Webo will score for Cameroon. The pride of every Cameroonian is football. If Cameroon does not win, the President of the Republic will declare national mourning. It will be terrible for

Cameroonians. Everybody will be sad. We don't hope for failure.
Kelvin Egute, Student, Department of Law, UB

Confusion Will Set In If Cameroon Don't Win
I foresee 1-0 win in favour of Cameroon. The goal will come in the second half. However, if Cameroon does not win, there will be a lot of confusion within the team, the job of the coach will be threatened, there will be problems in the nation.
Albert Achiri, Shopkeeper, Molyko, Buea

Lions Are My Only Hope
The match will end 1-0 in favour of the Lions. This is not because the Lions are fantastic, but because they are my only hope. They make me feel proud. If we do not win, I will miss being a proud Cameroonian.
George Neba Ngu- PMUC Bamenda Communication Chief Officer

Cameroon Will Make It
It will be a crucial match. I pray and hope that Cameroon will win, 2-1. Achille Webo or Eto'o Fils will score the goals. I can't say that Cameroon will not win. There is no doubt that Cameroon will win.
Christian Ambe Tayo, Technician, Molyko, Buea

Cameroon Should Show Sportsmanship
I'm usually good at forecast. Cameroon will win. There is no doubt about it. 2-1 in favour of Cameroon. Eto'o will score. Cameroonians are also good at sportsmanship. If Cameroon do not win, it is certain that Cote d'Ivoire will be one of Africa's representatives in Germany 2006. I wish to see other African countries try their hands in the game of football.
Oliver Lukong, Head teacher, St. Theresa International Bilingual School, Buea

Song should Use his Head
The Lions are already set and prepared for the upcoming duel. I am optimistic they shall win 2-0 because they have never faltered at home, event though fear always set in when the goals take long to come. But if they fail to qualify, I will take it normal. Song Bahanag should head in the goals as he has always done.
Innocent Yuh Editor-in-Chief,Ocean City Radio, Kumba

I Dream Of Victory
I know the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon shall win because I saw it in my dream that we were victorious by 3 goals to zero in favour of the Lions. My dreams have never failed me and this would not be an exception. But if we fail to qualify, I will develop heart problem because I have a lot of trust for the Lions. I know we shall win. Eto'o will score one of the goals and Webo two.
Harrison Mbah, Technician, Kumba

I Will Fast And Pray
This is the last match in which all Cameroonians are counting on. I will fast and pray for the Lions to qualify because I don't see Cameroon staying out of World Cup and African Nations Cup. That would be a taboo to us. If the Lions disappoint us, I shall take it normal. We must learn to accept defeat. My forecast for the match is 2-0, in favour of the Lions.
Dr. Walters Sama, Kumba

Defeat Won't Mean End Of World
I am prepared like, any other Cameroonian, who knows what it means for the Lions to qualify for the 2006 World Cup. I know it will be a difficult match, given that the Lions will play back home. If the Lions fail us, it would not be the end of the world because we have made our mark in the African continent and the world at large. But we don't pray for Egypt's victory. Lions limit should be the sky. My favour is 2-0 against the Egptians.
Charles Nforbin, Manager-Trustech-Kumba

The Nation Will Be Sick
. I am confident the Lions shall win because the new coach has done a good job. My forecast for the match is 2-0 for the Lions. This is certain. But if the Lions fail to qualify, the entire nation would be sick because Cameroon has gained international recognition in the game of football.
Bertrand Tikum Mbah,CCC Kumba

Comfortable Margin
I am convinced that we are going to win with a very comfortable margin because we are playing at home. I am not thinking of a defeat because if the Indomitable Lions were capable of beating Ivory Coast in Abidjan, then I think it is going to be an all out win against Egypt in Yaounde.
Bernard Okalia Bilai,Fako SDO

Victory For Cameroon
I think we are going to win because we have trained hard for it and there has been a lot of support from the rest of Cameroonians. If they fail to qualify for Germany, there will be a lot of disappointment and sadness because there have been a lot of hopes. But at the same time it would be wise for us to rally behind the teams that qualify and support them to right to the final stage. I believe we all need an African team to win the World Cup this time around.
Mrs. Dona Enow-Tanya,PRO-Limbe Urban Council

2-1 Victory For Lions

It is going to be a 2-1 victory in favour of the Lions. But a defeat is going to be very shocking to many Cameroonians.
Michael Metoh,Municipal Police, Limbe

  Lions Will Thrash Pharaohs 5-0
Cameroon is going to give the Egyptians a crushing 5-0 defeat just to prove to them that we are the best in Africa. But if by any mishap we do not qualify for Germany 2006, we are going to take it normal, for we have for the past years been going to the World Cup.
Masua Kombe,LUC Staff

One Leg Inside
We are one leg inside the World Cup 2006 and I think the match on Saturday against Egypt is going to give us the final victory to qualify for Germany 2006. As a football technician, I cannot predict the scores but I am confident that Cameroon will win.

I appreciate the scientific approach that the new Minister, Mbarga Mboa, has brought into the game and the solidarity of Cameroonians. If we fail to win, it would just be a game lost and it won't mean the end of Cameroon's football. We would just have to continue looking for a better strategy to keep on with our football prowess.
Jean Pierre Sadi, Former Indomitable Lions Trainer

Egypt Will Win
Cameroon will go into the game with a lot of enthusiasm but Egypt is coming with a lot of strain. I think Egypt will win, though I can't predict the scores. If Cameroon fails to qualify, all I can say is that it will serve us right because what we need now is the development of our football as a whole and not only to be focused on the team per se. Brazil is thriving because Brazilians have come to realise that it is one of their greatest exports and they have invested a lot in it.

But in Cameroon, the story is different. We have allowed our football clubs to collapse; there is not even a single stadium of international standard in Cameroon. When you look at the national team, all the 22 players are professionals whereas we have local clubs. It is like we only depend on foreign clubs to be fuelling our national team.
Charles Wirsuiy,CEO Ocean City Radio Limbe

Cameroon 2, Egypt 0
I think Cameroon will win by 2-0. If they fail to win, that will be a consequence of their own stupidity because they have all the experience and stamina.
Samson Ayuk,Form Two Student GHS Limbe

Cameroon Will Defeat Egypt 2-1
Cameroon will win by 2-1 and Eto and Webo shall score the goals. If Cameroon fails to qualify for the World Cup, many will be disappointed because of the efforts that have been put in. It will mean a blow to our reputation.
Ebong Pende Epiekese,SONARA Staff

The Score Shall Be 3-1
I forecast 3-1 victory in favour of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.  We shall qualify for Germany 2006, but will not likely beat our 1990 record, because of lack of serenity and sincerity on the part of our football authorities.
Fred Ntsang,Buea

Egypt Will Leave Regretting
Lions will win 2-0. Our major obstacle was the match against Ivory Coast. Since we succeeded in defeating them, I am very sure Egyptians will leave Cameroon regretting why they came here. Playing at home and in Yaounde, there is a number 12 player, that player is our home crowd. If Cameroon is defeated, it will be a bitter story to tell.
ZICO Nwati Nwati-Cameroon Tribune Photographer

Lions Defeat Will Sadden Me
Cameroon will defeat Egypt 1-0. We have a solid team. I am always excited when the Lions have a tough match so much so that at times I feel very emotional and allow others to watch the match and tell me the scores. If it happens that the Egyptians win, it will be a very sad week for me.
Mac Stella Boghema-Hair Dresser, Small Mankon, Bamenda

Lions Are Up To The Task
Cameroon will slam Egypt two goals to zero. Our lions are up to the task, because the coach and his collaborators have been working round the clock. When you have a good coach like Arthur Jorge, you can be sure of surprises. However, if Egypt defeat Cameroon, I will be very depressed.
Edward Ayugho-GHS Kwang Pinyin

Lions Should Expect A Tough Match
The Lions should expect a very difficult match against Egypt. The Egyptians have sharpened their skills just like the Lions. That not withstanding, I am confident of a one nil win in favour of the Lions. However, if we are defeated, I will consider that it was football, which is an entertaining game. We would swallow the bitter peel and re-examine our play style.
Gerald Buwake-Businessman Bamenda

I Am Not Prepared For Defeat
Though that match will be a very difficult one, I am very optimistic that Cameroon will emerge victorious 2-1. I do not think Egypt can walk over our Lions in Yaounde. So, I am not prepared to hear of any defeat.
Felicia Asana- teacher GBHS Bamendankwe

We Should Accept Defeat
I wish that Cameroon should win by 2-0.  If the Lions lose, we should exercise sportsmanship and fair play.

Mumbari Stephen, electrician Yaounde

I Foresee A Tie
I'm not good at bookmaking but I foresee a tie.
If Lions lose, I will be disappointed because football is considered as the only political party that brings all the forces of Cameroon together. Cameroon's defeat will give Cameroonians the opportunity to reflect on some other issues like the economy and politics. It will also give the opportunity for Cameroon to reform its team.
Amungwa Nicodemus, Journalist, Yaounde

Cameroon Will Win 3-0
The Indomitable Lions are indomitable. You just saw me buying a ticket to go and support them. I have my t-shirt also. You think I'm doing all of these for Cameroon to lose? Even if we have to use witchcraft, we will win.
Ntam Philomen, Trader, Yaounde

Oh well, the Ivorians, like the Togolese, and even the unfortunate Nigerians, were much more hungry for the WC than the inconsistent Lions. Cote d'ivoire might not have a better team but they sure are consistent - just what we need at the WC
