He told The Post Wednesday, February 15, after his official installation in buea, by the Secretary General in the Ministry of Secondary Education, Prof. Leke Tambo. "We would press very hard for the examination dues of teachers for the last session to be paid, so that we can have a hitch-free session this year," he said. The new Chairman said the GCE Board is an instrument of the government and that the Minister of Secondary Education has the final say.

"Whatever thing we will like to do, it will always be a proposal to be made to the supervisory Ministry, who will appreciate it and take the decisions. I will do everything possible to make sure that what is required in the board would be well presented to the government, especially to the Minister of Secondary Education, who will take necessary measures to satisfy all the demands of the board," he said.
Dr. Abety acknowledged the good working relationship he has with the Cameroon Teachers Trade Union, CATTU and the PTA. "In 1993, when the teachers and parents where striking, I was sent by the then Prime Minister, Hon. Simon Achidi Achu, to negotiate with the teachers and the parents to come to a consensus and call off the strikes, which I did.
I am still very happy about the key role that I played. I am meeting the same people and I am very certain that we will continue to work as harmoniously as we did in 1993 and brought about the creation of this board, which I have been called upon to spearhead on behalf of the government," he said.
Corroborating Dr. Abety, Prof. Tambo said additional money is coming in from the Ministry to support the payment of markers. "Some money was already advanced, but more is on the way," he promised.
On the possibility of more changes at the GCE Board, Prof. Tambo said: "Changes are with us all the time. It is not something that is not around. It is everywhere. We move forward, we never move backwards."
Prof. Tambo expressed delight with the new piece of land allocated for the construction of the new buildings of GCE Board. "We are working hard within the budgetary allocations of the Ministry in the next few years to ensure that we support this project of building. It is very important that examinations be done in a secured place and secured environment," he said.
He assured the personnel of the GCE Board that the authorities would do all to ensure that their situation was more and more comfortable.Earlier, the Registrar of the GCE Board, Dr Omer Weyi Yembe expressed his appreciation for the distinguished leadership provided to the Board by the out gone Chairperson, Dr Herbert Nganjo Endeley, during his dual capacity as Chairman of the Board and Chairman of the Council.
Dr. Yembe saw goodness in the personnel of the GCE Board. "The personnel is the best and greatest of the assets of the GCE Board. The other asset is a very advanced computerized system of processing examination data," he said.

Surprised to hear Abety talked as if he was in support of the creation of the board in 1993.Abety and all other agents of Biya from the NW and SW considered the Teachers´strike at the time as rebelion against their master Biya.Abety was so mad with the CPDM,one time he went to Kumbo and made a statement that he was advised by his political mentor,Fonlon not to ever be in the opposition. The question I asked at the time was, what will happen to him if the CPDM is not in power? Will he resign to join the ruling party or remain in the CPDM which if not in power will take the role of the opposition?
These fools from the NW and SW,because of selfish interest, they have sacrified Anglophone interest inorder to gain favour from Biya. These are the very people who saw nothing wrong with the 1996 constitution which gave right to Republic of Cameroon thereby wiping the identity of Anglophone Cameroon.Abety and others saw nothing wrong with the name Republic of Cameroon which is against Anglophone interest.
If you ask Abety his opinion about the necessity of the GCE board in 1993,he would have considered it rebelion against his master,Biya

This goes to spoil something under repairs.
This is telling us that the Ministry will continue its mission of destroy the Anglo saxon syatem of eduction which is conspicous with technical eduction in West Cameroon. Abety watch out!

Abety sit down quitly and eat. There is no need trying to defend your appointment. Dr. Biya knows only a few competent Cameroonians and luckily you are among them. Be celebrating your grand retour from the hamattan cold rather than saying that you fought for the creation of the Examination Board. Were you not among those who thought teachers were mad fighting for the creation of the GCE Board. Reaping where you never sow. Only shamely people speak like you.

May God really help our dear country. It is really a punch in the face by whosoever appointed Abetty to this position.
Can you imagine that this is some one who has for reasons well known to his stomach, stood on the path of progress of the English speaking community for as far back as one could think now is going to harvest from a farm that he never planted. He never supported the idea of the GCE Board and now you expect him to serve the interest of the board. Is this a clear message that the destruction of institutions that are most important to the English speaking community is still a big agenda for la Republique as they would not want to appoint someone who is constructive and with a sense of direction?
What a mockery?
