Militants of the opposition Social Democratic Front, SDF in Kumba, have sworn to kill whoever is caught rigging elections on or before July 22.
Lilian Nnoko: It is time for action
The militants sounded the warning note during their campaign tour that is currently going on in villages within Kumba.Speaking in Kopenda Camp and Malende respectively, July 9, Lilian Nnoko, Second Deputy Mayor of the Kumba Urban Council since 2002, and Aspirant councilor for Kumba I Council area, said 2007 is a decisive year.
She told women to advice their children not to accept bribe from any
party for engagement in multiple voting because they are set to
eliminate whoever is caught manipulating.
Nnoko told the population that the Kumba mortuary would be small for
the corpses that would be available on Election Day.
"Women, remember you bear the burden of your children, educate them very well not to rig, for peace to reign during this election." She stated. The SDF ward chairman of Malende, Aaron Tebo, welcoming the team, said he is already being threatened in Malende because of his support to the SDF.
For his part, the Kumba Electoral District Chair of the SDF, Ferdinand Asapngu, told the population to take money from any party that would offer them because it is their taxpayers' money, but vote for the SDF.
The chairman was furious over the news that, Chief John Ngoh of Malende, has promised to cease farms of non-indigenes who support the opposition. He said any settler who is threatened should call him and he shall appear with his team.
"I am encouraging you to cast your votes where you want to. The chief
has no right to frighten you. The chief's life shall not be spared too
if he rigs," Asapngu warned.
The chairman said SDF has gone through suffering with many people
killed in the liberation struggle. He said the people have been
pauperized by embezzlement, with the HIPC Completion Point having no
effect on the people. He insisted, a vote for SDF is a vote for
liberation.
John Kona Makia, list leader of SDF Kumba III told his people that it
was a great privilege that he is a Balong son. He said in his recent
meeting with the SDF national chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi, the latter
commissioned him to "Go and Let the People Out of bondage."
Divine Elonge, SDF Alternate Member of Parliament also told the
population that the time for change has come.
He announced that Fru Ndi is expected in Kumba on Sunday July 15 for a mass rally. The SDF campaign that started in Kake II and Diffa on July 7 shall end on the 21st with road announcements and animation.
