The President of the National Association of Athletes Against Doping, Roger Ndo Ndo, has disclosed that preparations are underway to sensitise the population with focus on youths and sports lovers against doping during the Chantal Biya Cycling Tour.
Ndo Ndo made this declaration in a chat with the press in Yaounde at the headquarters of the association during a meeting to announce the level of preparations for the upcoming event billed for October 5-7.
While stating that doping is condemned the world over especially by the United Nations and world sports bodies such as FIFA, Ndo Ndo also identified the types of drug consumed in Cameroon as marijuana, cocaine and D10 amongst others.
Like in the past where ANACD organised sensitisation during the Marc Vivien Foe Tournament, the FENASCO B Games in 2000, training on doping in Sangmelima, the Grand Prix Chantal Biya, Ndo said they would expose the risks of drugging especially during sporting activities and also let athletes know the importance of winning honourably.
The sensitisation is being organised against the backdrop of doping crisis surrounding the recent Tour De France where the likes of Alexandre Vinokourou and Rasmussen were denounced for doping.
In order to avoid such a situation during the Chantal Biya Cycling Tour, he said measures are underway to post banners along the roads, produce pamphlets on the bad effects of doping, hire cars with hostesses sensitising the population and offer T-shirts to the athletes along the Mbalmayo- Meyomessala and Yaounde road.
Ndo Ndo also said that a march would be organised against doping for the Central African sub-region with champions like Roving Ambassador Roger Milla, former boxing champion, Ndongo Ebanga and other household names like M. Yante Jonas of FECAKADA, Beaux Charles and Cecile Betala would lead the march.
