By Francis Tim Mbom
Some 83 children of the Bamboutos (West Province) community in Limbe were recently rewarded with prizes.
The children passed with distinction during the last public and end-of-term examinations in primary, secondary and high school levels. More than 2000 people who hail from various villages in Bamboutos like Bangang, Bafounda, Batcham, Mifi, Bamenkoubou etc, resident in Limbe congregated at the CDC Bota-Middle Farms Sports Complex for the prize-giving ceremony.
The Secretary General of the Bamboutos Community in Limbe, Thomas Tchio, said that their goal was to instil the spirit of excellence and leadership in academics in their children as well as to help the underprivileged within their lot.
Tchio stated that they also aimed at strengthening the solidarity of children from Bamboutous and encourage their children to work harder. He said the awards, made up of text books, pens and other school items, were worth FCFA 500,000.
But that the entire event, he added, swallowed up some FCFA 2 million as the football tournament equally ended with a cash trophy for the winners. Tchio said the prize award, which was in it third year, would become a yearly event.
One of the recipients, Chatriyan Tchoffo, a Form III student of Government Technical College, Down Beach, expressed happiness at the prizes he received. He said he felt the joy of hard work. The finals of a football tournament involving seven communities from Bamboutos preceded the award.
The finals pitted kids from the Batcham and Bafounda communities. The
winners, Bafounda, went home with a trophy and a cash prize.
