"UB has been authorised to carry out academic programmes in the areas of Engineering, Technology, Dentistry and Pharmacology," Fame Ndongo enumerated.Fame Ndongo said UB is enjoying a lot of support on its professional programmes from his ministry and the government of Cameroon.
"From this vantage point, the transition into the BMP has been a logical evolution that has enhanced the quality of education of our youths and increased their chances of gainful employment," he said.
He praised the stakeholders of UB for initiating and instilling the spirit of dialogue in conflict resolution, which according to him, has paved the way for tremendous progress on campus. He quickly cited the successful organisation of the first UB Business and Employment Forum as fallout of the serenity reigning in "The Place To Be."
Fame Ndongo advised the 2488 graduating students of UB to be exemplary ambassadors of the university. On his part, UB Vice Chancellor, Prof. Vincent Titanji, corroborated the Minister of Higher Education and Chancellor of UB, on the special consideration that his institution is receiving from the government, since its creation.
The 13th Convocation for the award of degrees, according to him was a stock-taking occasion in keeping with UB's tradition to transform lives.Titanji emphasised the virtues of citizen intellectualism, which is being propagated in UB. He holds that it is a concept that has set the stage for a peaceful atmosphere on campus, which makes way for continuous growth in scope, statue and size.
While wishing the graduates a successful completion of their degree programmes and a continuous success and achievements, Titanji reminded the graduates that there are greater challenges beyond the joy that accompanies the Convocation, which include putting the knowledge, skills and talents to the service of humanity.
In his academic discourse; "Coping With Climate Change," Associate Professor of Geology, Samuel Ayonghe, said climate change is increasingly becoming an issue of concern in the world. He linked the constant increase in atmospheric temperature to climate change. "Global warming is intrinsically linked to climate change. Therefore, the increase in population and industrialisation in the world today is connected to climate change," Ayonghe explained.
He blamed the recent hurricanes, bush fire, floods in the US, desertification in Africa, which has extended to Spain, landslides and the unprecedented heavy rains in Cameroon in early December, on climate change.
Meanwhile, in a valedictory speech, UB's 2008 best graduating student Eyong Esim Egbe urged the powers that be to improve on UB's staffing and infrastructure, while pledging on behalf of the graduands to be positive torchbearers of UB.
Reactions
The best female graduating student, Flavine Nyamusa Akwi, attributed her success to planning and hard work. "I had a goal and took the commitment to have it accomplished. It's a wonderful experience."
A visually impaired student, Peter Ngong, who used three years like the rest of the graduands to make it in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, told The Post that it is all about hard work and determination. "I had a lot of support from my brothers and sisters, which spurred me. I look forward to a Master's degree programme, if I'm given the opportunity," he said.
For his part, Samuel Otte Esuka, best student from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, said; "It's with a lot of positive competition, especially from my mates in the department. I look forward to continue with a Master's Degree and why not the Ph.D."
It should be noted that Moses Ngemenya, Assistant Lecturer in Bio-Chemistry Department was the lone candidate who was conferred a Ph.D.

It high time the Anglophones should get up from slumber and try to take part in the national cake because the cake of this country is only shared amongst the top french speaking people .It is better to die while fighting than to die sleeping.Anglophones have suffered a lot in this country .They are victims of segregation at various levels .employment ,development, education ministerial positions just to mention 2 of a hundred. Anywhere if they chose to remain silent it does not mean that they have been defeated who knows ? , a born American even in his or her dream have never seen a black man in the white house but today we are not talking of a dream but some thing real so then if we can measure the difficulties and the number of years a black American has taken to work to the white house ,and not even to talk of the black minority, at this juncture we must not border because the time will come when the Anglophones will work to the unity palace with ease just like OBAMA.
