Ekindi Says Biya Violated The Law Appointing ELECAM Members

By Joe Dinga Pefok

“In reality, I never in the first place expected much from the appointment, knowing the way the regime has over the years always manipulated things to have either directly or indirectly, a grip over the organisation of multi party elections in the country.

But then,  my impression with the December 30 appointment of ELECAM members is that of real deception.

Deception, because I did not imagine that the President could go to the extent of appointing  members of the Central Committee and Political Bureau of his ruling CPDM, as well as Ministers and Governors into ELECAM.”

The National President of “Movement Progressists,” Hon. Jean Jacques Ekindi, was, January 3, reacting to the December 30 appointment of the pioneer members of ELECAM (Elections Cameroon)

The visibly disappointed MP said not even the CPDM delegation to the consultation with the Prime Minister could have proposed any of the 12 members that President Paul Biya has appointed into ELECAM.

He further said none of the names on the ELECAM panel featured in any of the lists of the
political parties and civil society groups that met the Prime Minister. It would be recalled that Hon. Ekindi was one of the party leaders the Prime Minister received sometime ago during the so-called consultations on proposals to appoint members into ELECAM.

Ekindi noted that the law creating ELECAM makes it clear that anybody to be appointed into the outfit should not have any attachment to a political party, for the person has to be considered as being independent or neutral.

He said that was why the General Secretariat of the Central Committee of the CPDM, should not have gone to the extent of sending a delegation to the Prime Minister with a list that contained the names of some of the party’s active senior members.
He said while the law creating ELECAM is not so good, its application as seen with the
appointment of its members is despicable.

“In fact, the December 30 appointment is completely against the spirit of the law that
created the structure,” said Ekindi. He said it is unfortunate to see from time to time President Biya creates a law and is the same person who turns around and violates it.

He also questioned why the regime had to waste time carrying out so-called consultations to gather proposals for the appointment of members into ELECAM, when it already had its list.

“Today, it is clear that the consultation which the Prime Minister carried out was in fact
useless. The appointments on December 30 were a clear indication that nobody cared about our proposals…”

As to the declarations by some of the new members of ELECAM that they would resign from the CPDM, Ekindi said only a fool can believe in such hokum. He argued that such declarations are desperate attempts to create a fake impression in the
minds of members of the public.

He doubted if there is any Cameroonian, including CPDM militants, who can believe that
somebody who has risen in the CPDM party to the level of a Central Committee or Political
Bureau member can resign in words and deeds from the CPDM for the sake of an outfit like
ELECAM.

Hon. Jean Jacques Ekindi is one of the few politicians in Cameroon I seem to have 'a bit' of confidence in.He has said his own bit like a politician, but his hands, like those of the Fru Ndi's and the rest remain 'tied'.How unfortunate!!

Happy New Year to all our friends !!!!
Sometimes it beats my imaginations on what the army is meant for in Cameroon. Our cowardice has been proven even far beyond our borders. The army in Cameroon thinks it's role is to protect the president and not the people.
How comes that for close to 30 years now that there is total spoilation in the country, not even a single soldier is ready to liberate the people? What a shame !!!!
It's time you prove your worth to the world at large that you are an army for the people and not only for the president. Sometimes those coups are neccessary to correct the wrongs and harm already done to our beloved country Cameroon. May be you are not seeing it, but mind you Biya is not only tribalistic but also very egoistic.
With the amount of wealth he has accumulated, I read the pathetic story of a child with an eye tumour left to die in Yaounde. Oh my God, what's the role of this man Biya?
I almost derailed abit but mark you it was just out of annoyance. I was chatting with one Vietnamese friend in Beijing and what he told me almost made me weep. " We were at war for close to 30 years but I can assure you, my country can give aid to your country. why ? Coz you guys are in modern slavery working for one person who owns an army and 20 million slaves." I gave him a punch anyway and we ended up at the police and there I was told " you are just an ignorant man,why do you hate the truth?"
What truth? Are we really slaves? Somebody help me . Thanks bros !!!!
