Coverage of the International Cycling Tour of Cameroon that kicked off in Maroua, Far North Region on February 17 has been restricted to media partners.
Partners are media organs that the Cycling Federation signed conventions with. The media houses are all French inclined, with no Anglophone press as a partner. The Post approached the Cycling Federation for partnership but was rejected. On the contrary some of the French-oriented media organs were simply taken by the Federation as partners without authorisation from their management.
Assessment of last year coverage, indicated that media houses that were not in convention with the federation, objectively, reported on what was happening during the tour while the media partners were silent on certain issues.
Last year, it was announced that media organs that wish to cover the tour should apply. As the event came closer to time, journalists sought to know the outcome of their accreditation from the communication unit of the Ministry of Sports, they were rather told that a list came in from the Cycling Federation and these were their partners.
