The So-called Estates General on Communications - An Exercise in Futility

This position paper does not intend to question what mandate-motives Issa Bakary Tchiroma, a trained railroad engineer, to tinker with a domain as urbane as communications within the Camerounese polity. The reason is that, as minister of Communications, the man has the full approval of President Biya to initiate the so-called Estates General on Communications. .

This position paper does not also intend to challenge Mr. Issa Tchiroma’s credulity and credibility regarding communications issues. The good people of the Camerounese state know that speaking facts, handling facts and dealing with truths are not among Mr. Tchiroma’s finer attributes.Like every other propaganda minister in the Biya regime, Mr. Tchiroma is rather gifted in spinning yarns and telling fat ones and often from both ends of the mouth. So much so that a local tabloid, The Post, I believe, once characterized Mr. Tchiroma as “The Taliban of Communications.”

This paper intends to demonstrate that the maximax problematique regarding the just-ended and so-called Estates General on Communications is the bewildering failure to see the forest because of the absence of trees.
