  Ask the top bras of Cameron Radio Television why it did not broadcast the World Cup 2010 qualifying encounter between the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and the Lions of Morocco?  Doubling as qualifying match to the 2010 African Cup of Nations, in the erstwhile civil-strife beleaguered South Central African country of Angola, CRTV had all but closed the deal on purchasing the broadcasting rights to the highly anticipated encounter. The price tag of half a million dollars ($520,000) or a over quarter billion CFA (268 million FCFA) was not the issue. J.M Atangana Mebera on the Hot Seat of a G11 Birthed by President Biya

After terminating Ayissi Mvodo and imprisoning Titus Edzoa the hope of the Biya administration was that, falling short of beheading the Ewondo snake, it had immunized itself from the venom. There was an intimate Bulu / Fang understanding that it was a far safer bet dealing with their Ewondo devil-cousins that they knew than any other angel they could hardly contain. The Ewondos remained, by and large, a constituency on which President Biya could count on so long as he could sow enough enmity between blood brothers while keeping their divided communities ultimately allegiant to the King. Jean-Marie Atangana Mebara was stepping into the shoes of his brothers and knew full well the path on which they had trod. His challenge was to succeed where they had failed. Was there any chance of surviving in the Bulu / Fang set-up?

Paul Biya Buckles Down on Ewondo Opposition, but G11 Torch Passes on

Co-written and Edited by Innocent Chia Even as Professor Titus Edzoa transitioned through purgatory into the gates of political hell in the mid-to-late 90’s, he had taken due diligence to ensure that the Ewondos remained a political mal necessaire without whom the Bulu / Fang republicans would be out of power in a rush. The cabinet reshufflement of September 19, 1996, marked the first time in the 11 year political relationship withh Paul Biya that Titus Edzoa's counsel was neither solicited nor did it determine the outcome of new team members. In fact, he was never granted the opportunity of an exit interview and was refused access to the Presidency in an attempt to retrieve his personal belongings, including family pictures displayed in his office. The bulu-fang republicans decoded the refusal to grant Titus Edzoa access to his former office as trophy of their influence on Paul Biya and spread the incident in mockery and powerlessness of the Ewondos.

The arrest this Wednesday of the former boss of the National Petroleum Depots of Cameroon (SCDP), Jean-Baptiste Nguini Effa, is but another casualty in the all-daggers–drawn Fang Vs Ewondo ethnic rivalry. Even as the Government of Cameroon dutifully makes its case of embezzlement against Nguini Effa and conspirators, it will tread far off from the motive that Effa’s real crime is that he is Ewondo from Ngoumou Sub-Division in the Mefou Akono Division like Edzoa. Indeed, Jean-Baptiste Nguini Effa rose to power under the wings of an anomaly in the cabinet reshuffle of March 1985. In that reshuffle the arch-rivals of President Biya were booted out in favor of his ethnic Bulu / Fangs. The anomaly was Titus Edzoa. Irrefutably considered a very smart, dedicated pediatric surgeon, Professor Titus Edzoa was workaholic employed at the Yaounde Central Hospital. He emerged as Minister of Special Duties at the Presidency.

With elections a couple of years away in 2011, it is no-holds-barred in the raging battle to define ultimately whether or not power oscillates in the failed state of La Republique du Cameroon. In spite some brouhaha chiefly from some in Cameroun’s American Diaspora about fielding an “aboriginal Anglophone”, push is coming to shove and the main rivalry is an age-old hatchet between ethnic cousins: the Bulu / Fangs - of President Paul Biya - Vs the Ewondo’s - of the belated Ayissi Mvondo, who was murdered cold blood in Paris. In spite his death, his affect is far from over. The torchbearers of the Ayissi Mvonvo clan are known today as G-11, a pseudonym that aptly describes the goal of regaining supremacy in Cameroon’s geo-political landscape in 2011.
