His Eminence Christian Cardinal Tumi has called on three Reverend Sisters of the Servants of Mary, attached to the St. Mary Soledad Catholic Health Centre in Mankon, to shun all earthly values and summit themselves fully to the Lord.
The Cardinal was speaking recently at the perpetual profession of Rev. Sisters Doreen Leiteng Ngoran, Gisela Birgha Berinyuy and Victorine Fon Yula. The venue was the chapel of Sacred Heart College, Mankon.
During the homily, Cardinal Tumi said the occasion, coincidentally, was very special to him because the Rev. Sisters come from his home Parish in Kikaikelaki in the Diocese of Kumbo.
"When you were ordained Rev. Sisters, it was not because you were more beautiful or intelligent than other girls from Kikaikelaki, but because God decreed it. Today, this perpetual profession reconfirms God's choice.
"You did not do anything special to merit this, as such you must continue to look for the lost ship."
Tumi called on the Reverend Sisters and priests at the occasion, as well as the faithful, to feed "their hungry enemies with physical and spiritual food, and not repay evil with evil." He said a good shepherd must exercise hospitality, especially with the poor and associate him/herself with the humble.
To the priests, he said he was happy to be one of them "because in Cameroon today and elsewhere, only a few people including priests have three square meals a day."
On behalf of the Mother General, Rev. Sister Purification Ferrero, thanked the family members of the newly professed for allowing their children to join this noble and Godly profession.
While appealing to the Rev. Sisters to show good examples so that other young girls can join the profession to serve God, Sister Ferrero said this would be based on their Godly lifestyle.
In a word of gratitude to the Bishops, Mother Superior, and their parents, the Rev. Sisters said they count very much on the continuous prayers and support from Christians for them to follow Christ more intimately as faithful servants in God's vineyard.
