The two female students, Sama Akunyun and Nelly Carole Fotzo Makou, excelled in the GCE Advanced Level. Fon Fobuzie Martin Asanji, Mezam Education Delegate, who presided at the occasion, praised both the givers and receivers of the award and books.
He was impressed that one of the recipients of the FCFA 100.000 cash prize was a Francophone, showing that CAMAUWs largesse was not limited to the Northwest Province.
By acting without discrimination, the Delegate said, CAMAUW had demonstrated that Cameroon really belongs to all of us. Fon Fobuzie said the girls have only one other thing to achieve after their studies - get good husbands.
Dr.(Mrs) Beatrice Ndoping, President of CAMAUW, described the occasion as the first of CAMAUW's official activities since the Association's Biennial Conference in August.
She announced that 200 girls received gifts of school uniforms and remedial classes in the Southwest Province.
Presenting the award, CAMAUW's torchbearer said the initiative was introduced as an honour to the Association's pioneer President, who at a time when people tend only to receive, chose to give.
She praised Grace Tima's decision to create CAMAUW where graduate women could give their time and knowledge to make a change in society, especially in improving the status of females.
She promised that CAMAUW would continue to assist women and young girls to acquire more knowledge and skills. She, however, regretted the fact that in Cameroon people erroneously think one can succeed only by leaving the country.
"Cameroon belongs to all of us and our collective responsibility is to apply our knowledge and skills to make it what we want," Tima said. She was happy with the opportunity given younger women to grow and be like CAMAUW women.
Fotzo Makou, the Francophone winner, said she and her mate lacked words to thank CAMAUW. She said, "This is the first time I am holding FCFA 100.000 which is my own."
The schools that benefited from the book donation included P.S Baba I-Ngoketunjia, P.S Guzang, (Group Two) in Batibo, Momo Division, C.S Wazi in Bui, G.S Buh in Menchum P.S Bawok in Mezam and C.S Mbot, in Donga Mantung.
