Interviewed By Innocent Mbunwe
Marcolino Nhany is an Angolan veteran sports reporter with Folha 8 newspaper. In a chat with The Post, he assesses the Lions' chances of winning the 2006 African Nations Cup. Nhany discerns a complete team in the Lions and appreciates their organisation on the pitch. He says of Artur Jorge: "He is a soccer doctor."
The Post: What do you know about the Indomitable Lions?
Marcolino: I think Cameroon has a good and complete squad; the defence, midfield and attack line is very stable. You have players like Eto'o, Geremi and Makoun who are polyvalent; they play more than one role in the field. It is very difficult to mark them. Any other player in the team can score a goal.
How far do you think the Lions can go in this tournament?
In my opinion, they will play the finals with Nigeria.
What would you say of Artur Jorge's coaching?
I knew Artur long ago when he was a player. He was a very good professional. I respect him and his results. He is a soccer doctor. When he was a player in Portugal, he represented Academica (University Club of Portugal) before moving over to Benfica. He used to be an intelligent scorer. He emerged many times as highest goal scorer in Portugal.
Which players in the Lions team spur you?
A player like Rigobert Song, I respect him. He has been consistent in his play style and is very tough. He is a commander in the Lions' defence and that brings confidence to the team. He has got a lot of experience, from France, Germany, Italy, England and now Turkey. Why not from Cameroon also? (Laughs).
There are young players in the team like Makoun who are very difficult to mark. They keep on dodging from one end of the pitch to the other. This system completely destabilises the opponent's play style. Not to talk of a tranquil keeper like Soulemanou. You see, our keeper was nervous in our encounter against Cameroon, may be because of the so many stars in your team.
Cameroon did not qualify for the World Cup while Angola did. Does this make Angola a better team?
The groups were not the same. Your former coach also made some mistakes. You can see the difference with the coming of Artur. He has proved that Cameroon is still the best. Our team has also not impressed people because some of our main players are not there. Some were sanctioned by FIFA for failing the anti-doping test.
One other problem is that before the Nations Cup, we had no competition going on in Angola since most of our players are home-based.It was very difficult for us to imagine that Cameroon is not going to the World Cup. We know Cameroon is Africa's No 1. It will be bizarre for Cameroon to be observers instead of participants in the World Cup.

Brother Taku,
Am I really a "sick person"? If different people who love their country and will defend unity, peace, democracy and justice are considered "SICK" by the so-called Ambazonians. Then, I am very sick.
Do you really believe in Democracy and freedom of speech you so called Ambazonians? Do you really think you will go to Cameroon and march on people because your ideas can not be debated by anyone in our Country?
Do you really believe that anyone who disagrees with you will be intimidated so easily? If you answer by yes, you are really out of touch as many people have suggested on this forum.
So who is sick? YOU OR ME? I leave the answer to your imagination.
Progressive Cameroonians have been labelled SICK by the a Cameroonian KKK Group....
Does it really matter?
DEMOCRACY IS THE ONLY WAY!
To help our Country, you Must LOVE IT first.
NOBODY CALLING FOR DIVISION OF OUR PEOPLE WILL BE ACCEPTED IN CAMEROON!
WE ARE ENGLISH AND FRENCH SPEAKING SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF CAMEROON WHO WILL FIGHT FOR A DEMOCRATIC, PEACEFUL, PROSPEROUS CAMEROON.
NO NAME CALLING WILL INTIMIDATE US....
