The Northwest Fons' Union, NOWEFU, has resolved that the murdered Fon of Babanki Simon Vugah II be buried in his village of origin. The Northwest Fons' Union, NOWEFU, has resolved that the murdered Fon of Babanki Simon Vugah II be buried in his village of origin.Taking the decision on Sunday, January 29, at the Palace of Fon Zofoa II of Babungo, NOWEFU reiterated its condemnation of the brutality demonstrated by Babanki extremists who killed Fon Vugah.

The Fons considered it grossly unfair that even after snuffing life out of the former Fon, he should be denied a befitting burial. They, therefore, unanimously agreed that the corpse of Simon Vugah II be given a burial befitting a Fon in Babanki.
NOWEFU's declaration is in line with the decision of the late Fon's family. The late Fon's son Gilbert Vugah made the family decision known to the press during a briefing in Bamenda. According to him, all the 20 wives and 87 children of late Fon Vugah II have resolved to bury him in Babanki Palace with all the honour he deserves even if they are killed in the process.
For the past week the family members have been mounting pressure on the Northwest administration to release the corpse for burial. But the administration for fear of the consequences that could follow is dragging its feet on the matter.
NOWEFU also used the occasion to install the Ngoketunjia Branch of NOWEFU headed by the host Fon. They also expressed their disappointment with Dr. Doh Ganyonga III, Fon of Bali for accepting to head the controversial Tikari/Chamba Fons' Forum, TIK-CHA-FOR.
A NOWEFU member told The Post that the Fons expressed indignation at the idea of someone who is not a traditional ruler pushing around a respected ruler like Fon Ganyonga III of Bali, to head such an association.
The Fon of Bali reportedly tried to defend TIK-CHA-FOR by saying it was a family come-together. But NOWEFU colleagues considered this a strategy to promote tribalism and split the Northwest.
Ntumfor Nico Halle expressed his commitment to a one and indivisible Northwest. Doh Ganyonga finally renewed his loyalty to NOWEFU. It was therefore an elated Fon Chafah XI of Bangolan, NOWEFU President who told the population before the close of the meeting that TIK-CHA-FOR had been "killed and buried."
Authough NOWEFU has an interest in this case given that one of theirs was murdered, I personnaly think the Kwifon of Big Babanki position is final on this matter. The kids and wives of the former Fon have a right to push for the burial of their dad/husband in big Babanki. However, considering what the late man did to the village, it is only the Kwifon of big Babanki that has the final say on this matter. Until the cleanse the village with appropriate traditional rites, there is no burying the late Fon in Big Babanki will lead to serious curse to the land of big Babanki.

Interesting revelation: These North West Fons can have MORE THAN 20 official wives. If the little unknown Bananki Fon can have 20 official wives, then I begin to wonder how many official wives important Fons like Agwafo of Mankon and the Butcher in Bali-K can be having.
It seems becoming Fon in the North West province means enjoying more sex and having many children. If not, why the many wives and children from a single Fon! I now understand why in the North West, there is always this war on becoming Fon.
Since a single Fon can not satisfy the sexual needs of all his wives, the "NCHINDAS" (servants in the palaces) may be having an important role to perform. I wonder what the results would look like if all the children of all these North West Fons undergo paternity tests to determine their biological fathers.

Whether the late Fon is burried in big Babanki or not, the Kwifon must perform some traditional rites. Tradition holds that a new Fon can only be crowned when his predecessor is no more. Dethrowned or not, Fon Vuga II before his death, traditionally, was the Fon of big Babanki. Please, do not misunderstand me. I am not supporting what he did to his people. If the kwifon went to their "shrine" and reported the late Fon, I am sure, the ancestors were still looking at ways to punish him in a way that was going to be even more painful than what they did. Since they dicided to take the laws into their hands, they should be ready to face the consequences both from the Government and their Ancestors.
Mukete, a fool at your age is a fool for ever. Why don't you write an article on what seems to disturb you concerning the NW Fons. The issue at hand is completely different.

Mukete, Please don’t even strain your brain trying to understand North West Fons because you will never know what they are, and why they do what they do. It is not about sex as you mentioned, or about multiple kids, but there is something about it that you might never know, no matter how hard you try to understand, let that be a misery to you guys, just as North Westerners will never understand why South West Fons have decided to wear stockings on their heads instead of the normal hats or cups.

Let us not make a big deal out of nothing .Nobody in this forum created those traditions ,with the high cost of raising kids , taking care of a multitude of spouses and the low cost of stockings those traditions may not be around for long.Hopefully no one declares a Jihad to eradicate those who dare question tradition some of us were born and bred in.

Mukete seems confused and sounds stupid. No one is defending polygamism as an intergral part of tradition in the north west.I believe this forum was created for Cameroonians to express ideas constructively and otherwise. It does not make any sense for you to mount your computer post a write up which to me sounds chidish and and stupid. You could express your ideas about polygamy in the North West Fondoms without sounding sacarstic, provocative and stupid. The North West Province is unique in Cameroon because its culture and tradition.Such traditions and customs are jealously upheld by most people from that region.
