Why Coins Are Scarce In Cameroon
By Chris Mbunwe
Besides other economic ills, the Cameroonian economy just like those of its counterparts in the CEMAC sub-region was greatly perturbed by the scarcity of FCFA coins. Explaining the situation to journalists in Yaounde recently, the Governor of the Bank of Central Africa States, BEAC, Felix MamaLippot, attributed the scarcity of coins in the sub-region to the fact that some people use them make jewels.

He warned that the act was criminal. He revealed that BEAC was ready to pump in new coins to the tune of over FCFA one billion into the economies of the six CEMAC countries. The coins that will go into circulation on Wednesday, March 29 are 1 franc, 2 francs, 5 francs, 100 francs and 500 francs. They are of different colours. The old coins, according to the Gabonese-born Governor will still be in use. .

SCNC Hails Creation Of Human Rights Council
SCNC National Vice Chairman Nfor Ngala Nfor, who doubles as United Nations Unrepresented People's Organistion, UNPO's Foreign Affairs Commission Vice Chair, has hailed the transformation of the Human Rights Council from the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, UNCHR, recently.
According to Nfor Nfor, the Human Rights Council will be more powerful and effective in handling the concerns of the UNPO and its member nations and peoples, such as the Southern Cameroons, than the defunct UNCHR.
Nfor Nfor believes that the Human Rights Council will strengthen, promote and protect fundamental human rights as well as deal with major human rights offenders. He quotes UN General Assembly President, Jan Eliasson of Sweden, "Today, we stand ready to witness a new beginning for the promotion and protection of human rights."
The SCNC stalwart now sees the transformation as a positive move to accelerate Southern Cameroons independence.
How silly can Mamalopot get? The shortage of coins and currency in the CFA franc zone is, and continues to be the simple fact that France still prints and mints the coinage for the zone. The situation has gotten worse since France won the contract to print the Euro. As a result, its number one priority is making sure that there is adequate currency for Europe. Just like every organ of government that runs the affairs of the region, its primary means of governing is lying to the public. This joker from Gabon should go back to advising Bongo on how to hang around longer just like his arch rival, Biya.
