UPC Mackit Decries Release Of Alleged Embezzlers
President of UPC Mackit Dr. Samuel Mackit has said the ongoing anti-corruption fight led by President Paul Biya is a big joke. At a press conference in Douala on March 17, Mackit questioned why the big time 'thieves' arrested for embezzlement of public funds are soon released. Worse still, Cameroonians are not told why they are arrested.
Mackit said his party has no doubt that Biya has no interest or will to fight corruption, for his regime created the situation which breeds corruption in the country. He said the Head of State is finding it difficult to arrest and put on trial members of the regime who are known to have embezzled huge sums of public funds, and are squandering the money, while the Cameroonian masses are dying of misery. Mackit said the so-called anti-corruption fight is meant to deceive the Breton Woods Institutions, in a desperate attempt to enable Cameroon reach the Completion Point of the HIPC Initiative. He called on the Cameroonian people to mobilise and push Biya to effectively carry the fight against corruption to the end.
The Price Of Listening To Gossip
A young lady, Madeleine Meya, was sitting quietly at her home in K5 in the New Bell neighbourhood, in the night of March 14, when someone called her and told her that her boyfriend, who lives in the same quarter, was canoodling another girl at home. Without a second thought, Meya reportedly leaped out of the house and rushed to her boyfriend's house. But on her way, a gang of armed robbers fell upon her.
When she resisted letting go her handbag, which contained a cell phone among other items, the bandits stabbed her a number of times. They took the handbag as well as her necklace, and left her in a pool of blood. Meya was rushed to the Laquintinie Hospital where she was admitted, and had to undergo an operation.
In another bloody incident on that same evening, a young man, Philippe Lauleu, who had gone out to the famous spot for lovers, ' Base Elf ' near the Bonaberi Bridge for reconciliatory talks with his girlfriend, ended up soaked in blood at the Laquintinie Hospital. Probably due to the excitement of reconciliation, the two lovers failed to note that it was getting late.
As they prepared to leave, a gang of bandits ordered Lauleu to surrender everything he had on him. In trying to play tough in front of his girlfriend, Lauleu was stabbed several times. He collapsed in a pool of his own blood.
Lauleu's girlfriend was subjected to all sorts of indignities, which included baring her breasts for some of the fellows to suck. Lauleu was rushed to the Laquintinie Hospital where he was also operated on.
