By Innocent Mbunwe Mount Cameroon FC of Buea, Sunday, March 12, broke their victory drought by stunning rivals, Canon of Yaounde 1-0 in a day 6 action of the 2006 National Division Championship in the Nations Capital. Mount Cameroon had earlier played and drawn five matches under head coach, Tonye Tonye.
But with their win over Canon, the team's waning fans hope for an end to the victory drought that had put the Lava Boys on the back foot. One of the fans quipped: "This victory has encouraged me to resume my support for the team. Henceforth, I will not miss any of their matches," stated Victor Anagho, a Buea-based supporter of the team. Last season, Mount Cameroon recorded the highest number of ties in the league, drawing 15 matches.
The team now occupies the eighth position on the league table, up from the twelfth position.
League leaders, Cotonsport of Garoua also maintained their lead with four points adrift second place Fovu of Baham. Mount Cameroon, Esperience, Astre and Aigle all have eight points each and occupy the 8th, 7th, 6th and 5th positions respectively. Fovu, Sahel and Bamboutos with ten points each reside in 2nd, 3rd and 4th places in that order.
Racing of Bafoussam with three points, Kadji Sport Academy, four points and Impots FC are tailing the chart.
Jean Vauclin Bikima of Astre of Douala is currently topping the goal chart with fives goals followed by Mouosso of Sable, Jean Masson of Union, and Jean Nlend of Fovu with three goals each.
If they care they should win their matches if they don't that is their own cup of tea. I wish i was God they would not win even one one match. Its a very bad team. An English team that wants to be in the Champoinship all alone. Its true that its business but i think if they west province would have taken it that way, then i don't think they would have had upto three teams in the championship. I will always go to watch my matches but to be honest there is never a day i will clap again for mont Cameroon. If they care they should drop i will continue watching the second division since tempered fled that was why they team at one point was a Douala team. I beg on supporters that tempers should keep flying so that we can one day have a good English first division team ready to cooperate with others.
