Fame Ndongo Downplays UB Crisis

In spite of the death of two students caused by police bullets during the recent strike at the University of Buea, and a sombre atmosphere looming over the campus and the neighbourhoods, Higher Education Minister Jacques Fame Ndongo says all is well at the University.

The Minister's statement to reporters on Tuesday, December 19, after installing Professor Vincent Pryde Kehdingha Titanji as the new University of Buea, UB, Vice Chancellor, downplayed the gravity of the UB tragedy.

Fame Ndongo, who was visiting UB in fragile peace, carefully avoided any mention of the crisis."There is no more problem and now our universities function in calm, responsibility and peace," Fame Ndongo stated without mentioning the grim realities at the University.
He did not see much of a problem plaguing University students.

"Students have some problems but Government is doing her all to resolve these problems. I request the students to be responsible, calm and trust the Government and the Head of State, President Biya," he said.

Fame Ndongo stated that there is no more trouble with Cameroonian universities. On Monday, December 18, I even signed two orders abrogating that of February 14, 2006. There is no problem in Buea, there is serenity," he added.

He appealed to parents, students, administrative personnel, teaching and support staff of UB to immediately get back to work and make UB a great varsity, which does not only radiate in Cameroon but in Africa and the rest of the world.

"This will only come to fruition thanks to academic excellence and research," he said.
The Minister also took off time to caution that UB does not belong to any specific ethnic group(s).

When he caused the crowd at the installation to observe a moment of silence in honour of deceased staff of the University, whose names he called out, Fame Ndongo did not mention any of the fallen UB students.

Reading a handwritten speech, the Minister enjoined Professor Titanji to maintain academic excellence, good governance and social dialogue in the respect of national unity.

The Minister also announced that he had overruled a decision by the Douala University authorities barring two student leaders from all State universities in the country.
Despite the colourfulness of the ceremony and the broad smiles that could be seen flashing on the face of the outgoing VC, lines of mixed feelings could be discerned under the veneer of tranquillity.

After the installation ceremony, a working session with the Minister and other top UB officials excluded the former Vice Chancellor Lambi. Attempts by the press to contact Lambi to comment on the day's happenings bore no fruit.

As for the new VC, he had this to say: "This institution is not starting. It is an institution that is 14 years old. We have a strategic plan; we will work from where my predecessors ended and innovate as we go ahead."

Titanji said school will resume as soon as possible. "We will have a meeting Wednesday, December 20 to set the date. Remember, the academic year in Cameroon is decided by the Minister and the resumption of date is January 3, 2007."

The University of Buea Students' Union President, UBSU, David Abia, whom some say has been bought over by the administration, signed a press release before the installation calling on the entire student body to massively attend the ceremony and cautioned anybody who planned to disrupt the occasion.

All these lies and stories by the Fame Ndongo, Titanji, Lambi and other members of this corrupt junta can only be listened to by a very stupid person. Biya and other gang members of La Republique's junta are guilty of murder and manglaugter, firearms offences and robbery. Every member of this regime is very, very dangerous and ruthless and I believe they would just continue to commit crime if they cannot be taken off our streets. Since two students were shot, there is no more trouble in the University of Buea, as thought by Fame Ndongo. Even your government has not expressed any remorse and sorrow for the slaining of our brothers.

We understand you have succeeded in imposing some of your own at the University of Buea invoking a mundane Law only know by you and your ilk when the maidens list of UB's medical school is concerned. Such creative compliance invoked by corrupt henchmen like you is a sign that your time is almost over.

You might have succeeded in having one of our own in the name of Titanji to replace another puppet of yours in the name of Lambi, but you have not succeeded in brainwashing us all. From your sadistic and savagery attitude that led to the loss of some of our brothers and sisters, our people have recognised that our biggest evil in La Republique francaise du Cameroun. Fame Ndongo, coming to our land and making such a statement amounts to incredible criminal threat and civil annoyance that cannot be tolerated. Southern Cameroonian intelligence strongly opposes your present and activities in our land. We understand you are just there to plan and execute another terrorist activity.

Let me remind the world that Titanji is a pussy professor and a corrupt man. One of his foremost high profile cases was the UB scandal of the 90's in the department of chemistry, where he handed a first class degree to his girlfriend at the time. The girl is now based in London. He has also succeeded in acquiring fraudulent scholarships for his relatives and friends for scandinavian Universities. Those are the kind of people La Republique can promote. What a shame.

Rexon am addressing this straight to you: first of all I want to appreciate you for your love for your country and the internet, that not withstanding I wish to call your attention to a few issues.
1) You have to acknowledge the fact, Cameroon is one and indivisible country, that has always been and by the grace of God will always be. When you talk about Southern Cameroon it actually disturbs me, your thinking is so naïve and your utterances are a reason to why freedom of speech is not allowed or was not allowed is some parts of the world. you have shown in more than one occasion on this forum; that you are a complete abuse of the right of free speech and put in question your education. I know you probably have a box full of certificates like many Cameroonians do, as Cameroon is one of the most literate countries in Africa, but unfortunately u went to school but school did not go through you.
2) To even think about secession, is retrogression in all its forms, you have to realise that before the white people came, we were one, a true testaments is the similarities in our indigenous languages, for instance, a Douala man speaks quite similarly to a bakweri man and in more than one way their cultures are the same and there’s no way me as a bakweri man will ever call my Douala brother of whom we both share the sawa culture a foreigner. At the same time the culture between the Dschang people and most of the lebialem people is almost identical and they speak quite similar language and for u to propagate the idea that lebialem and dschang should be made to belong to 2 different countries, that will be the height of backwardness. You will be celebrating colonialism if you do that, that’s not African at all. We detest colonialism and have to try ways of undoing colonialism and all its legacy by uniting more and more rather than dividing. I beg you my brother get some sense into your head and refrain from such stupidity and selfishness of the lunatic rhetoric of the so called southern Cameroon.
3) You argue that you want to secede, because of marginalisation, unemployment, underdevelopment etc. If you were careful enough to consider all these reason you will realise that it is just an African problem call by different names in different countries, people face the same issues all across the continent. If you choose to call the Anglophone problem, good for you, but do not let your insanity be contagious. If I were you I will take some time and consider my views on Cameroonian issues and world issues at large. You will see that there are a lot we Cameroonians have in common that we can use for the of ourselves and out country rather than celebrate our difference. We can move forward and we can only do so together.
4) You have to realise that Biya loves power, is corrupt and ruthless but that is not the problem we have in Cameroon, the real problem we have in Cameroon is backwardness and incompetence, that cuts across the whole country from private sector to the government and you are just an example of a Cameroonian. People who believe a charm rather than hard work can keep them in office and people who believe that a charm rather than good marketing will bring them customers, what kind of country do you expect?

MY FRIENDS IN THE POLITICAL, SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC WORLD...I wish you well!

Mr. Paul Biya, Firstly, I'd like to say that to see what is right, and not do it, is want of courage or of basic principle. I wish you long LIFE to witness retributive justice.

Mr. Ni John Fru Ndi(the matador in Bamenda and conscience of Cameroon), truly I write this one with tears running down my cheek. They say you've wasted 16 years. That's not true. You didn't waste a single year. The first ever election you contested saw you victorious. Is this waste? If I had to select one quality, one personal characteristic that I regard as being most highly correlated with success, whatever the field, I would pick the trait of persistence and determination. The will to endure to the end, to get knocked down seventy times and get up off the floor saying, 'Here comes number seventy-one'! I am personally convinced that one person can be a change catalyst, a 'transformer' in any situation, any organization. Such an individual is yeast that can leaven an entire loaf. It requires vision, initiative, patience, respect, persistence, courage, and faith to be a transforming leader. You've been just that. However, never let your persistence and passion turn into stubbornness and ignorance. Wisdom, Prayers and committment is what I wish you!...it is your new year gift.

Mr. Ngwasiri, reconciliation should be accompanied by justice, otherwise it will not last. While we all hope for peace it shouldn't be peace at any cost but peace based on principle, on justice. Let the constitution of the SDF play it's role. And I know you're not unaware of the fact that more than any time in history mankind faces a crossroads. One path leads to despair and utter hopelessness, the other to total extinction. Let us pray that you, Ngwasiri have the wisdom to choose correctly. Mr. Ben Muna, indeed, man wishes to be happy even when he so lives as to make happiness impossible. You may also be interested to learn that the difference between greatness and mediocrity is often how an individual views a mistake...and my advise...when you make a mistake, don't look back at it long. Take the reason of the thing into your mind, and then look forward. Mistakes are lessons of wisdom. The past cannot be changed. The future is yet in your power. I wish you strength and knowledge to be able to rethink your strategy for leadership, fame and riches.

Nje, Feli et al, People of mediocre ability sometimes achieve outstanding success because they don't know when to quit. Most men succeed because they are determined to. Stay the cause gentlemen and keep speaking your truth quietly for they say "it is that truth that sets us free".

To all the Ngwasirit/Muna supporhters including BenTeribobs, Mukete, Ftroit, Vally of England, Momo, Fritzane Kiki, etc always remember that it is good to fight for your opinions, but do not believe that they contain the whole truth or the only truth. However while fighting but failed, remember that you become a champion by fighting one more round. When things are tough, you fight one more round. Although no one can persuade another to change. Each of us guards a gate of change that can only be opened from the inside. We cannot open the gate of another, either by argument or emotional appeal...the only thing I can do is wish you a splendid knowledge on decision-making, repentance and confession come 2007. Akoson, surely by "hope" you must mean faith in the status quo. You must mean people believing that it is going to change on its own. HOPE otherwise, is not poison. Even a person who blows himself up with others for political reasons has a strange kind of hope, that he and occasionally she would find some kind of reward in an afterlife. Despair or giving up is the real poison. Selfishness is also poison. Doing things only if they would benefit one, or not doing the right thing because one would not benefit personally, is serious poison, the worst.
