Let's face the truth. The University of Buea crisis was used as an occasion to ridicule the Anglo-Saxon University system through its Vice Chancellor, Professor Cornelius Lambi.
It is true that, by publicly admitting his error of publishing a list of admissions of students into the UB School of Medicine, without consulting Yaounde, Lambi actually fell into their trap. In fact, he helplessly placed his skull on the slab to be slaughtered.
Fame Ndongo, the Minister of Higher Education, proceeded to decapitate Lambi with a fury. Every opportunity the Minister had, he referred to Lambi as if the latter was some kitchen minion. Fame Ndongo harped on how Lambi had publicly admitted his error; on how he had "illegally published the list."
One wonders where Ndongo would have mustered the effrontery to chide an intellectual of Lambi's calibre with such supercilious arrogance if he did not bask in Cameroon's "regional imbalance".
Ndongo and his ilk, who use their ethnic superiority to utter such provocative inanities, will one day, God willing, be summoned to the court of history. Unfortunately, Lambi failed to decipher the scrawl on the wall. He should have resigned. He did not. And that is why his fate is so pathetic.
In fairness, if Lambi gaffed in managing the crisis and had to go, then, what do you say about the person who ordered the slaying of the two hapless students? He should have been axed - first. But, like last year, when two other Anglophone students were slain, nobody has said a word.
The presidential commission set up by Paul Biya and chaired by Abouem a Tchoyi is still to tell Cameroonians what happened. Curiously, Abouem has now been enlisted into the University circle. He is the Chairman of the Board of the University of Yaounde.
Still, until the findings of that commission are made public and the issues raised in it frontally tackled, UB will continue to lurch from one crisis to the other.
And changing VCs - no matter how often- can never be the answer.
The lessons from the recent University of Buea saga are numerous. When it comes to Anglophone institutions, the government voraciously announces "regional balance".
Where, one may ask Prof. Fame Ndongo, is regional balance in CUSS, Polytechnic, School of Public Works, Police College(s), CEFAM, P&T School, ENAP, ESSTIC, ENAM etc, etc?
On the side, the indecent haste with which they proceeded to replace Prof. Herbert Nganjo Endeley, whose remains are still in the mortuary, was obscene. Couldn't Fame Ndongo have waited just for a little while longer so as to bury Endeley before replacing him? What was the haste all about?
They have a very telling saying: Il faut l'embrasser pour mieux l'ettouffer. Translated loosely, this would mean that it is necessary to embrace them in order to suffocate or strangulate them.
In the coming days, Titanji will respect the ritual by moving up to his native Bali where the "elite" will profusely thank the President for his divine nod. Then, they will ask Bali sons and daughters to vote massively for the God created party, the CPDM.
Soon after that, Titanji will then be co-opted as a CPDM "resource person". By some magical wand, he would be expected to have metamorphosed into the leading Bali politician. And then and then…
On Tuesday, Professor Titanji will be installed as the new VC of the University of Buea. Titanji, fortunately, is no newcomer to UB. He is an insider with a deep knowledge of the University.
But, Tijanji will have to decide either to advance the Anglo-Saxon tenets of UB or kowtow to the Yaounde hierarchy and mortgage the inherent unique tradition of that citadel of Anglophone learning. Either way, the countdown to his departure begins on the day he takes command.
..."countdown to his(Titanji's) departure begins on the day he takes command, INDEED!
That was a good and succinct piece there about the unscrupolous activities of the "almighty" minister on our plight - our unique anglosaxon education, something they don't and may never earn so long as they keep dining with the French Rosy Crux.
...I doubt why the Post should be sorry for Lambi cos his friends, adherents, admirers and even his detractors asked him to resign but his reaction was "power's sweet!"
...and now PEOPLE're asking Titanji to deny taking that post of responsibility...or if he does, let him get there and dismiss those students who were imposed to the UB medical skul. If he doesn't he wud be dining with the devil and will face his nemesis in no distant future...
I pity Titanji!
The SON.

Oh Excuse me...I mean...deny the list sent from Yaounde. And not dismiss the students cos I hear only the "almighty" has the right to dismiss as he did to their fellow FROG students at Douala.
By the way has UB students started classes yet? If I were a student there I wud've done things!

In another story here, His Royal Highness The Fon of Bali was chiding his party the CPDM for unprofessionalism and failure to deliver. I guess, with the appointment of Professor Titanji to the exhaulted office of VC of UB, he will be expected to eat his words and join the choir.
"Wetin you dee complain? Nobe ya pikin dee chop?"
I am sure the wise king will refuse to be bought out so cheaply.

Ma Mary, frankly speaking I cudn't help laughing.
"Wetin you dee complain? Nobe ya pikin dee chop?"...you know this statement of yours is really true. I've personally encountered this statement several times. It is critical of Bakweri politics.
I cud just imagine the old mbambas in Limbe making such a dull statement...Hahahahahahahahaha. Still laughing at that statement. I don't know where you came about it cos I ONLY guess that you've hardly been home for ages.
The SON. "...NO be ya pikin dee chop?" Hahaha.

No pity for Lambi. If he stood firm that he did the right thing and got sacked for it, we'll sympathise with him. Instead he betrayed the students who so much needed his support at the time to wright some of the Anglophone colonial wrongs by admitting that he made a mistake.
Next time Lami willbe himself.

"when Bakweri pikin chop...na so so wee. Biya lek we plenty. Yi put Mafany...then after yi put so so wee pikin, Inoni. This Cameroon weh yi big so. You check say if yi no lek wee yi go choose only wee pikin?"
Most Bakweri mbambas can die for Biya..truely speaking. And even their youths. I get sick when I meet such situations.
My dear Bakweri guys, no insults please. Was just talking from personal experiences cos I was a Victoria(Limbe) man.

Another Demon, Titanji has been appointed to continue the evils of La Republique's colonial agents. The circle of evil in that failed Republic will never end.
God Help Us.

This is a lot of nonsense,, the REAL ISSUE resulting to the commencement of the strike action has never been really addressed. Everybody keeps arguing about Lambi and whatever.... WAS THE LIST WITH THE STUDENTS WHO DIDNT WRITE EVER SUPPOSED TO BE PUBLISHED?????/ IT'S NOT ABOUT LAMBI OR FAME NDONGO,,, ITS ALL ABOUT THE "LIST" AND ITS POSSIBLE RETRACTION.
Posted by: malcolm | Monday, 18 December 2006 at 10:41 PM
This is a well-written piece... " the arrogance of Francophone Power" in Cameroun.
Truly the intellectually dishonest Fame Ndongo is basking in Cameroon's regional imbalance of power. That is all.
A minister of higher education who refuses to congratulate and acknowledge consummate performance by the youth just because they are not from his tribe - that is the crest of ethno fascism. He then proceeds to substitute success for failure.

The best outcome is for Prof Titanji to decline the appointment. This option however, like Lambi's hesitation to resign, is not Cameroonian.
In my home state of New Hampshire, we bask in the motto of "total freedom or death" Hence, men/women here have never allowed themselves to be manipulated by their inferiors.
Posted by: Kumbaboy | Monday, 18 December 2006 at 10:52 PM
The idea is not for Titanji to resign. If he resigns another Anglophone will be picked almost instantly.Should he again resign, then a Beti will be sent from Yaounde. This time around, "regional rotation" will be invoked.Motions of support will still flow to Etoudi. The real problem is for Anglophones to change their mentality.Unfortunately this is a real hard thing to do,as long as Agbor Tabi,Njoma,Inoni,Ngolle,Achidi Achu,Yang,Nsahlai,Abel Nde etc continue to exist. This group of persons and a few others who are willing to kill even their own sons to please Yaounde is the greatest problem facing S.Cameroonians.

It takes more than a man to make the kind of political statement Lambi's resignation would have made. The forces in play in Cameroon are too evil and ruthless to be fathomed by the citizenry. If Lambi resigned,he'd most probably be dead by now or at best be in jail;because the act would have been construed as the most serious socio-cultural afront and defiance to the government.Cognizant of the fact that this is a government that readily orders the murder of placard carrying students within a university campus,i want to believe Professor Corneluis Lambi would have been killed if he as much as resigned.Prof.Titus Edzoa knows what i'm talking about.
The passiveness of the Buea populace and the English speaking Cameroonian population at large didnt help matters.(The GCE Board came about being thanks to the English speaking civil servants in Yaounde)The man was left alone to make such a powerful socio-cultural and by extension, political statement on behalf of a system and poeple.Indeed it takes more than a man to do that.Professor Lambi is no hero;but by God he's no villain either.I wait for the day he'd be free and safe enough to tell the world what exactly transpired.
The seed has been sown;the damage done.from now henceforth the UB stops being an Anglo-Saxon university;and that's if it ever was.Every single decision will be taken by the minister and his cronies in yaounde until a Hero comes by.

Vito,
Very very powerful comment. You've diagnosed one of the greatest obstacles in the whole crisis..."The passiveness of the Buea populace and the English speaking Cameroonian population at large...". When English-speaking Cameroons would have stood and shouted with one voice, they either remained passive or sided with Yaounde.Actually Lambi found himself sandwiched between two hard rocks. If he had resigned,he by now would have been a dead hero or a hero languishing in jail. The story would have ended there.People would have continued with their daily businesses. He opted to be a humiliated intellectual in the face of already humiliated S.Cameroonians.
Posted by: Muki StoneHall | Tuesday, 19 December 2006 at 04:23 AM
The piece above sounds correctly.Mr Lambi helped to see his own mortification by accepting err done by his suzerain and assistants.Truly,he may have been scared of retribution to stand down in demonstration of his innocence. He seems to be mum member of the suzerain'team. This is where the corruption forte junta won,ie,ridiculing and making a gammon of UB and zero tolerance on fraud. The opposition went mugwump throughout hitherto.Alas.
Posted by: Ndiks | Tuesday, 19 December 2006 at 11:59 AM
Vito,
You are sharp and to the point. The passiveness of the Anglophone Population is their greatest weakness. This is less to do with Inoni, Achu, Musonge, etc..
The Anglophone population has allowed itself to be disenfranchised by what Kumbaboy has aptly described as the "ethno-facism" of Fame Ndongo.
It is a tribute to the intellectual dishonesty of Fame Ndongo that UB Medical School is going to admit students who either failed the entrance exam or did not bother to write it! Corruption in Cameroon takes many forms.

All this talk about Lambi's leaving and his replacement has seemingly not solved any problem.
I am personally dissapointed with the speed with which southern Cameroonians do forget about the root causes and solutions to their problems and concentrate on digress issues. The continued attack on our Southern Cameroonians brothers and sisters with lethal weapons amounted to sadistic and sickening savagery, almost beyond comprehension by La Republique. Their families has been left with an irreplaceable loss and terrible grief. our actions must reflect our concern for this people, not that each time we are shot, we quickly forget and start locking horns with colonial agents of La Republique. Life should mean life and no one should try to take another persons life simply because he wants to place some of his own in high profile positions in La Republique. We can only imagine what can be going on in these family's minds as they mourn their lost children. If i were killed like that, i dont know how my poor mother would have felt for the rest of her life. I have lost friends in less miserable situations, but their families still suffer from the truama until date. That poor kids were subjected to a frenzied, relentless attack, which was as humiliating and degrading as it was violent and cowardly.
We should not behave like we are La Republique that have a disregard for their lives. We should continue mourning them and designing strategies to defend ourselves from such barberic actions from La Republique in the near future. Otherwise, we would be wiped out.
Posted by: rexon | Tuesday, 19 December 2006 at 10:56 PM
There is more about "Radio Mille Collines" Ndongo HERE. He will surely play a leading role in whipping up his people to murder if and when the genocide of Southern Cameroonians begins.
Posted by: Ma Mary | Wednesday, 20 December 2006 at 06:28 AM
Akoson, you need to develop a profounder sense of la republique's divide and conquer tactics for us to win this thing. At any given point in time, the powers in la republique "favour" one tribe. Just remember that the purpose of doing such is not because such a tribe is a majority or did something unusual. The purpose is to cause disunity and discord.
The first thing they did was to favor the Metta in the same way they favor the Bakweri today. That was in the seventies and most of the '80s. Then they created the NW and SW provinces. People in NW who were not Metta began to resent them for their unusual access to power and resources. Late Pa Muna aand his followers would sing praises of CNU and Ahidjo. It was disgraceful. People in SW began to resent the NW as a group, because the infrastructure in Buea and other places was crumbling, while Bamenda seemed to be booming. This was perfect. Keep the anglos hating themselves while Ahidjo carts off their wealth.
Fast forward till today. Replace the word Metta with Bakweri. Replace CNU with CPDM and Ahidjo with Biya. Replace Muna with Inoni, and you can see that the tactic is the same. There are even credible reports of movements in the Manyu community, backing such ruthless players as Agbor Tabi, because the Manyu are more numerous, have more educated people and more deserving of having the prime minister. That is perfect. La republique wants it like that+ Southern Cameroonians hating and fighting each other. My dear friends, do not be manipulated so easily.
My prediction is that the next APPOINTED Southern Cameroon"prime Minister" of la republique will come from Bui, maybe Nsahlai or Yang, in a vain attempt to break the back of the Southern Cameroons movement, which has very deep roots in that region. Do not be fooled. Everything they do has a logic based on maintaining power and control.

This comments from le messager by Shanda Ntone about the UB crisis. A good piece and a wake - up call. My appologies. Read on:

Thank you very much for this brilliant analogy. When the mettas were eating particles off the table nothing in the form of development was taking place--the road to Mbengwi to date attest to that. The Bakweri elite is now eating particles off the table and clapping for the almighty to reign forever even though apart from the industrial building, there is nothing else to show from SONARA. I hear John B. Ndeh and the other crooks in the Northern Zone are planning to win during the next charade (elections) even though the Ring Road is still waiting for the second coming of Christ. Wonders shall never end.

Ma Mary
You made me laugh out my lungs when you claim in the 70s Ahidjo favored the Mettas. Hahahaha. How I wish Ma Mary. Are you equating Muna=Metta? Come on Ma Mary when a tribe is favored their lips are oiled, what has Metta to show for the favor? The Prison Yard In Mbengwi or the dusty road from Azire to Nyen Mbo?
I agree in toto with you that consecutive La Repulicque's regimes have used the old trick of divide and rule but stating giving as evidence , favor of the Mettas is rediculous .This is the poorest region in the North West and Pa Muna while up there tactically sent away any young child who asked him help with the rhectorical "Abere Math,Abere Physics"? meaning " Did you have math and Pysics ?Clever way to deny help.
As a rebuttal Ahidjo favored people who inturn favored their families and not tribes if I may put it this way.
Tayong
Posted by: tayong | Wednesday, 20 December 2006 at 09:04 AM
Tayong, you are absolutely correctt. Neither the Metta masses nor the Bakweri masses benefit from this arrangement. But the price for keeping these ethnic champions in favor is that they blackmail and bully their fellows to keep quiet and offer them false hope in order to keep their expectations down. The masses in Manyu have been promised motorable roads traversing their territory to Bamenda and the Nigerian border. They have been dangling this over peoples heads like a bait. Its like the old 419 tricks. It surprises me that people are still falling for it.
In the case of the Bakweri, it is particularly badbecause la republique has designs on their premium lands and is trying to steal them under the cover of the prime ministers of Bakweri extraction. Unfortunately for them, the Bakweri put up a fight and successfully sued them in the African International Human Rights Court.. That is why the reign of these Bakweri prime ministers is limited. They have not delivered the things that la republique wants.

Fame Ndongo: THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING
I will say that all those who are struggling or those who believe in the restoration of the Southern Cameroons statehood should be celebrating.
His Royal Highest Prince Fame Ndongo is a Christmas give to you all. He has made the case for your struggle more than any one can imagine. Indeed, I will call on all of you to say the following prayer:
“Oh Lord our God, we pray that you give His Royal Highest King Paul Biya, great ruler of the La Republic Françoise Du Cameroun and Colonial Master of Southern Cameroons, more wisdom so that he can appoint many more Fame Ndongo into his kingdom. We also pray that you guide and direct our prince and give him a long service in this kingdom. Lord, in your mercy, hear of prayer… Amen.”
Here are a few suggestions for our Prince: In the name of linguistic balance we advice that you pass another decree that all studies at the Faculty of Medicine at the University Of Buea be conducted in French. Infact, as from this year, all entrance examination into the above school will be conduct in French only. That will ensure all the official languages are represented in all Universities.
We wish you the best and many years in power.

Dear ALL,
Prof. Lambi would have been a hero if he stood by his list. If something else was imposed on him, he should have said no, but since he thought by admitted that he erred, he will remain the VC, he forgot that the CPDM regime is more satanic than satan himself.
Fellow Southern Cameroonians,
Never mind Chief Endeley or all the Chiefs and Fons. Endeley has said on several occasions that he is a Bakweriphone - if anyone expected him to stand by UB, then that person was living in a different world. In fact, we are in a country where those who are supposed to lead are the very ones misleading. Until, we ALL say enough is enough, the Biya junta will continue to lord it over the people. Titanji is another Lambi. Mrs. Njeuman had long sold the Anglo-Xason nature of UB as usual to please those who appointed her.
Merry Xmas to you all!

Thank you Monty for forwarding the piece from Le Messager.
Fame Ndongo has delivered a disservice to his country and betrayed a remarkable degree of intellectual corruption.
His substitution of candidates who passed to attend UB Medical School with children of his cronies who either failed the contest or did not participate, under the subterfuge of "regional balance" and his attempt to forment an Angloi-Franco hatred amount to TREASON.
FAME Ndongo must be FIRED.

Lambi deserves no sympathy.Countless number of Cameroonians are known to have resigned from this Paul Biya's nonsense called la republique.Even francophone ministers and governors did resign, atleast in the early 90s.
If he wanted to be tactful and cautious (which is essential when dealing with the Fame ndongos and Biyas who are not so different from the likes of Idi Amin,Hitler and Saddam)he shouldn't have gone beyond appologising for publishing a list without the ministers signature. Under no circumstance should he have approved the list from Ndongo.
While Ndongo was humiliating him in Public, Lambi was busy apologising. To who and for what? What a disgrace to bring your self so low to a goat whose level of reasoning can only be compared to some your level 150 students.Forget about the prof. title awarded to him by presidential decree no 419.
Nobody was going to do anything to Lambi. All he had to say was that he was barely trying to implement Paul Biya's anti corruption campaign, period. After all he was appointed by a presidential decree just like Mr. Ndongo.

HE WHO RISES BY THE SWORD LIVES TO DIE BY THE SWORD!!!
IT IS ONLY BEFITTING FOR THE SO-CALLED PROF. LAMBI TO APOLOGIZE.
IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING, THAT HE DID NOT MERIT HIS POST BUT WAS PLACED THERE BECAUSE SOMEONE IN BIYA'S CIRCLE SUGGESTED HIS CANDIDACY AND SUBSEQUENT APPOINTMENT AS A FAVOR.
IT SERVES HIM VERY WELL!!!
I WISH HE COULD ONLY THINK OF HIS SLEEPLESS NIGHTS THAT HE SPENT PREPARING FOR HIS QUALIFICATIONS (SAME QUALIFICATIONS AS FAME NDONGO). DUE TO SUCH APPOINTMENTS AND ACADEMIC ACCOLADES (OF CAMEROON) MADE AT THE PRESIDENCY (BY THE ALMIGHTY, INCARNATE, EXCELLENCY, TENANT OF ETOUDI), LAMBI OWES HIS LIVELIHOOD TO THE ONE WHO FOUND FAVOR IN HIM.
ANY WONDER HE APOLOGIZED INSTEAD OF STANDING FOR WHAT HE BELIEVES AND SHOULD REPRESENT?? THIS LAMBI WAS MORE INTERESTED IN HIMSELF AND HIS SURVIVAL AS VC THAN IN THE PRINCIPLES THAT MUST GOVERN ANY DESERVING ACADEMICIAN'S CONSCIENCE. YOU DO NOT NEED INTELLECT TO KNOW WRONG FROM RIGHT OR TO RIGHT A WRONG.
PEOPLE OF HIS CALIBRE SHOULD NOT BE SERVING THE PUBLIC, LET ALONE A CITADEL OF THE PURSUIT OF KNOWLEDGE AND ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE.
WHO KNOWS WHERE AND HOW HE OBTAINED HIS DEGREES!!!!
HE RUSHED TO GRANT AN INTERVIEW IN CAMEROON-INFO.NET WHERE HE WAS ASKED WHAT HAS BECOME OF THE INVESTIGATIONS INTO THE PREVIOUS SLAYINGS: LAMBI SAID SOMETHING OF THE NATURE THAT THE STUDENTS ARE DEMANDING THE RESULTS OF THE PREVIOUS SLAYINGS. I GASPED AND READ AGAIN WHAT HE WAS TRYING TO SAY AND JUST SHOOK MY HEAD.
AS A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE SCHOOL, THAT SHOULD BE ONE OF HIS RESPONSIBILITIES TO PURSUE ON BEHALF OF THE STUDENTS.
INSTEAD, WHAT HE DID WAS TO SELFISHLY AND IRRESPONSIBLY DISTANCE HIMSELF FROM THE QUESTION OF THE STUDENT DEATHS.
LAMBI IS A COWARD WHO IS SELFISH AND LACKS THE COURAGE TO STAND-UP TO AUTHORITIES. THANK GOODNESS HE IS GONE.
I WILL NOT WANT SOMEBODY LIKE HIM (WITH A CARTILAGINOUS BACKBONE) TO REPRESENT ME, MY CHILD OR THE CREAM OF THE FUTURE LEADERS OF MY COUNTRY.
GOOD-BYE AND HAVE A NICE DAY!!!!!
