The theft has occurred of 18 healthy research cows valued at about FCFA 7 million belonging to the Faculty of Agronomy and Agricultural Sciences of the University of the Dschang.
According to reliable sources at the University Farm, when the herdsman, Nkobe Salihou, went to take out the cows for grazing, they were nowhere to be seen.
The herdsman reportedly informed the authority of the University Farm. With the intervention of the University administration, a search was mounted to recover the cows.
The sources at the University Farm told The Post that the company in charge of security at the University did not deploy a night watchman on the farm on that particular night, and this might have facilitated the rustling of the animals.
Another source said the security agents had been at loggerheads with the administration for non-payment of their dues, which could lead to complicity in the theft.
Yet another source said a student of the Faculty of Agronomy and Agricultural Sciences, who does all his research and practicals on the farm, and used to milk the cows, saw two young Mbororo herdsmen driving them towards Santchou. But the security agents dispatched to Santchou did not find the cows.
