I know you are still relishing the effervescence of the African Cup of Nations. I can see that all attention has shifted to Ghana and our senses of patriotism and national unity have been best implored.
The subject has shifted from constitutional amendment to winning the African Cup of Nations. But I suspect that if we win the Cup, we will simply clap the motion for constitutional amendment into law.
Come to think of it, who would not want the Lions to bring home the trophy for the fifth time? It would only be lack of patriotism and, to an extent, treason, that anyone would not want that trophy home. However, one of my cynical Southern Cameroons brothers said he is waiting for the day Southern Cameroons would be playing against La République in an African Cup of Nations match. I think there is nothing wrong with having pipe dreams.
Ngwa, what vexes me is that if the Lions win the trophy, your group of Dimabolas will use it as an opportunity to send motions of support to the Lion Man as if he sweated on the field for the victory. Do not be surprised that very soon all the credit for the Lions' victory will go to him, that is why his wife airlifted food to the Lions. When we also credit the woes of this country to him, they say we are opposition.
Ngwa, I feel that the Lions and that trophy are the only things that make this country bilingual in any way; when there is no English or French, when there is no Francophone or Anglophone, when everybody is Cameroonian. All the song about bilingualism in this country is a fine comedy.
If bilingualism means we are subjected to have most, if not all, official documents in French; that Anglophones are forced to understand French and linguistically play second fiddle; then you are right that this country is bilingual.
In celebrating a day of bilingualism each year, we are effectively telling the world that we are far from being bilingual. Is Canada not bilingual; why do they not celebrate a day of bilingualism like we do? Bilingualism in this country is still a joke.
Recently, the press was awash with the sacking of Etoundi from PAD and some even talked of the French Bolloré Company and all the blah blah blah about mafia and the rest. It seems you don't know that this country is run like a secret cult where the Almighty Ogambassi only needs to speak and it would rain fire and brimstone on whoever he pleases. Or are you surprised that the colonial master is still milking the cow?
Implicitly, the new man already has firm instructions and knows that he must toe the line or go the same way. My poor ears heard that the Bolloré outfit has the warmest relationship with Elysée and Unity Palace and the former PAD GM only ridiculed himself by trying to alienate Bolloré from a juicy contract.
My brother, why is the Yaounde regime so inconsiderate? Do you know I almost forgot that the retired Colonel and his 'S' brothers are still cooling their withered feet in jail? This is quite unfair and unjust. You remember the way we clapped the new Criminal Procedure Code into being. We had hoped that justice would be speedy and that people would not stay in detention for eternity without trial.
Now, it seems the New Code is just another piece of good writing for reading. Poor Colonel! I have come to realise that being in the 'S' fold in itself is a crime. Maybe we should consider cross-carpeting to the "winning" team.
Ngwa, some of our upcountry brothers are now just empty tins making noise about demonstration promises. First, those of the 'S' denomination promised thunder and earthquake if the elections were rigged. Nothing happened. They promised demonstrating against constitutional change. The promise died naturally. Recently, they promised to demonstrate so that the Balikumbat Lion's case should be revisited.
Little do they know that the 'C' denomination is fine-tuning its strategies on how to bring the matter to a logical end without raising dust. In this country, things work according to plan, and you would call me a soothsayer when the deal would have been concluded in his favour.
Have you heard that CAF is considering forcing us to host the soccer jamboree, since we have refused to bid for the hosting? Let that not bother you, we are not there yet. I know you are enjoying every moment of the jamboree in Ghana.
Please, do extend my regards to your wife and the kids and remember to reply.
Yours sincerely,
Mbella
