Political intransigence and deadlock, which have rocked the democratic process in Cameroon for many years today, may soon become a thing of the past if the overtures for dialogue between two belligerents, Paul Biya and Fru Ndi see a breakthrough.
The need for the two political opponents to mend fences, was arrived at over the weekend in Bamenda following a two-day meeting of the highest decision making body of the Social Democratic Front, SDF, NEC, in Ntarinkon.
During this meeting, problems relating to the life of the party and the nation after the February 2008 crisis and its aftermath were discussed. The national political situation was equally examined and, after the deliberations NEC came out with two resolutions, namely:
Make cheap international calls from your home, work, or cell"Requests the National Chairman of the SDF to hold a Press Conference in Yaounde on Monday, March 17, to brief the national and international press and Diplomatic Corps on the issues rocking Cameroon.
"Empower the National Chairman of the SDF to seek an audience with the Head of State, Paul Biya, to discuss issues affecting the nation."
Northwest SDF Replies Marafa
In a related development, the Northwest Provincial Chairman of the Social Democratic Front, Bernard Tabali, has said of Marafa Hamidou Yaya, Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralizsation, MINATD, as adopting an escapist and cunning attitude, which portrays a hidden agenda from government.
"The intention of the CPDM government is to demonize and blackmail the SDF National Chairman and the Northwest. He wondered whether, Marafa is not calling for ethnic cleansing going by his recent pronouncements to the effect that Fru Ndi and the SDF were main sponsors of the February uprisings.
Tabali would want the Minister to say who kidnapped two Italians from Douala and brought them to Bamenda and where, specifically, they were released in Bamenda? He would also want Marafa to identify the youths whom the Minister claimed were caught at Makenene, and to tell the world who the hardened criminal was, whom he alleged was spotted behind Fru Ndi's car, and why the said hardened criminal was not arrested.
"The caliber of such a Minister of State cannot go down so low to be telling childish lies. He also said the SDF had organized a seminar to train youths to go vandalize people... Let him know that the seminar was co-sponsored by the Jean Jures Foundation from France and Britain.
Does Marafa mean that France and Britain came to train vandals in Cameroon?", he wondered.Tabali, called on SDF militants and the Northwest population to stay vigilant, for as he put it, the price of liberty to is eternal vigilance.
The willing of Fru Ndi to meet Paul Biya is pure bravado by the SDF. Paul Biya meets no one, let alone amateur "sorcerers" from the grasslands.

The tragic thing is that Cameroonians no longer give a schitt. They will go for the ride and see where it takes them.
