About time they tested them! If you did go to medical school, at all, out of Cameroon you must surely be used to taking regular and demanding tests and retraining; in most cases, several times a month. How dare this supposedly 'anonymous' 'medical doctor' and his ilk whine about a very justified verification procedure. And to say it is humiliating to `colleagues coming from abroad' is obviously a suggestion that our system is so inferior, if not worthless, that anything that comes from outside is gold. Ask anyone who has tried leaving Cameroon to practice medicine somewhere else and you'll cringe at how meticulous and dreary the drilling is. You and I know the only humiliation to talk about here is when everyone finds out that, that fancy physician from 'abroad' doesn't know his/her stuff, or even better, (s)he's fake. And maybe you should go back and read your Hippocratic Oath, and then, read it again!

Abesong John

if you know the stuff, why fear to be tested on what you know already. This is just to make sure that you meet the standards. I strongly support the idea.

Tombele

You guys assume too much. Tested by who? Those doctors in Cameroon, where do they go for latest in medical technology, how many of them can read an ultra sound report, or MIR or sophisticated blood tests. Finally the clincher, we are talking about francophone cameroon, just pay 50,000cfa and part of the money goes up the line, to the minister thief and chief of them all the presidency and you get any medical designation you want. Ever heard of bac-tchad. You can operate and kill a million Cameroonians, pay 100K cfa and keep practising!!!!!

red flag

WHO IS TESTING THESE FOLKS FROM CUSS WHO ARE WORLD KNOWN NOT TO BE ABLE TO DISECT A RABBIT?

red flag

THE TESTERS THEMSELVES OUGHT TO BE TESTED AN ACCREDITATED BY A FOREIGN INSTITUTION, THATS HOW THIS EVIL REGIME DISCARDED OUR PRECIOUS AND WORLD RENOWNED CITY AND GUILDS OF LONDON INSTITUTE IN THE NAME OF CAMEROUNIZATION, AND 7M SOUTHERN CAMEROONIANS ARE LEFT IN THE COLD.

FIDELE

I PERSONALLY RECOMMEND THE TESTING OF DOCTORS FROM FOREIGN COUNTRIES. WE HAVE TO UNDERSTAND HERE THAT THIS IS ABOUT PEOPLES' LIFES NOT RABBITS. YOU CANNOT PRACTICE IN THE U S WITHOUT PASSING THE BOARD EXAMINATION. WHY SHOULD CAMEROON BE AN EXCEPTION. SOME DUBIOUS INDIVIDUALS DRAG THIS NOBLE PROFESSION IN THE MUD.FOR EXAMPLE PEOPLE LIKE DR. TIMAH WHO WAS THE CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICE FOR THE PRESBYTERIAN HOSPITAL ACHA-TUGI HAS KILLED MORE THAN 200 PEOPLE THROUGH OPERATIONS. HE IS THE WORST DOCTOR IN THE WORLD. SURELY GOD WILL PAY HIM FOR THE PAIN HE HAS INFLICTED ON MANY FAMILIES. IN FACT, HE HAS MADE CHILDREN BECOME ORPHANS, WIVES BECOME WIDOWS, HUSBANDS BECOME WIDOWERS, AND SEVERAL FAMILIES HELPLESS.

Cheboy

Such a test is normal in other countries, especially in the West. The members of the Medical Council should put the same efforts to ensure that ethics in the medicine are also practised and that the cameroon administration should work with them in this direction. Health first before money.

Let's hope that the test shall be really to check/verify and not to keep potential competitors away, or better doctors who may challenge their level of medicine.

Shalom

Hear Tombele:
"Those doctors in Cameroon, where do they go for latest in medical technology, how many of them can read an ultra sound report, or MIR or sophisticated blood tests."

Hear Red Flag:
"WHO IS TESTING THESE FOLKS FROM CUSS WHO ARE WORLD KNOWN NOT TO BE ABLE TO DISSECT A RABBIT?"

This simply show that either some of you asylum seekers have been out of the country so long that you have lost touch or your are genuinely dishonest.
Cameroon has been independent since 1961 and the health care of the Cameroonian population progressively passed into the hands of nationals, some of whom were trained abroad like Prof. Muna, Mbanya, McMoli, Kaptue, Tsala and many others. Some of them are chairs of some of the world's and Africa's renown professional associations and colleges. This brand of world renown medics have over the years assured the quality of professional medical training in the lone medical school, sending out well rounded general practitioners who for most of the time have had the health of whole sub-divisions and even divisions on their shoulders; playing the role of pediatricians, surgeons, internists and even radiologists. If they were unable to operate a rabbit, who have been taking care of those emergencies like c/sections, ruptured ectopic pregnancies and acute abdomens, cases that cannot be transfered from enclaved areas. On the contrary, It is training abroad that is "practically" incomplete, students do not touch patients. You can check that out.
There is such a lot of irrational reactions to issues on this forum that a stranger would doubt the intellectual capacity of Cameroonians from reading some of them.
I personally have met some of these Chinese who pass around for medics but they are fake. I had the privilege to evaluate one who wanted to start a practice in a division. When I discovered that what he presented was fake certificates-he could not even tell me how long he studied to be a medical doctor- he escaped overnight when I drew the attention of the Senior Divisional officer to him. There are many of such passing around in Cameroon for specialist who can read all the "sophisticated blood tests and..." because there is no regulation and no good legal system where they can be sued.

FIDELE

I feel you shalom for your contribution. these doctors trained in cameroon are doing their best to see that the cameroonian populace is healthy. i really commend them for the job they are doing in spite of limited resources. i beg to disagree with you on one thing. it is not a lie that those trained out of the country are better than their counterparts in cameroon. i am in the field of medical research in the developed world. from my experience, i can really tell you that the type of training i have received is really formidable. it will take several decades if not centuries for fellows in cameroon to do that, considering the state of the government. That not withstanding, i uphold the policy that these foreign trained folks be tested. if you know your subject matter, you need not to be afraid to be tested.
