An upsurge in rascality in some schools in Bui Division has compelled the SDO, Daniel Panjouno, to write issue a stern circular letter to all the principals of government and private educational establishments in the Division to restore discipline in their schools.
This follows reports of five students from St. Augustine's College Kumbo including one from Government Bilingual High School Kumbo who reportedly gang-raped a free woman in a certain hotel.
In the same vein, some students of Government Secondary School Lafele Djottin are reported to have beaten up some teachers. These cases had hardly occurred in the schools in the past.
The more shocking news is that even the fences around boarding schools are now porous. The SDO said while parents are confident that their children are under control and learning in boarding schools the contrary is beginning to happen.
The situation, he added, in day schools is in no way better as some students go to school at their own time and leave at will.Panjouno said the worst case scenario in day schools is that teachers who ought to be exemplary have also resorted to indiscipline, absenteeism.
The routine practice now is for teachers to sit back and send old notes to students to dictate to their classmates.
Armed Robbers Hit Bamenda Up-station
By Peterkins Manyong
A gang of armed robbers, Friday 10, pulled a series of jobs in Up-station where some major military installations of the Northwest Province are found. The Post learnt that they attacked one Mrs. Ndumu and collected a huge some of money.
The robbers allegedly acted on a tip-off from a neighbour of Mrs. Ndumu that her children resident in the US had sent her a lot of money. Thus, when they arrived, they reportedly ordered Mrs. Ndumu to give them all the dollars sent to her.
When she hesitated, they hit and wounded her in the hand. The Post gathered that the hoodlums after robbing the woman, ordered her at gunpoint to accompany them to a neighbour and tell them to open the door, saying her (Mrs. Ndumu's) child was ill. This, she did.
When the neighbour opened the door, he found himself starring into the ugly mouth of a pistol. The robbers fleeced him of all the cash he had before going away.Speaking to The Post on phone, Mrs. Ndumu said she thanked God that the robbers didn't kill her.
Another target that night was a soldier working with military intelligence. It is noteworthy that Mrs. Ndumu and the soldier live only a stone throw from the Brigade in Bamendakwe.
It is also significant to note that the Governor resides in Up-station.
Commentators are convinced that the boldness demonstrated by the robbers might have been inspired by the recent audacious robbery in Limbe.
CIMENCAM To Increase Cement Production
By Christopher Jator Njechu
The Regional Director of La Farge Group for Africa South of the Sahara, Bernard Lebras, has said his group will boost cement production in Cameroon by 50 Percent before the end of this year.
Lebras told the press shortly after his audience with the Prime Minister in Yaounde last week that La Farge, which is a shareholder of the cement outfit, is currently working on a project to double the production capacity of CIMENCAM.
According to the La Farge Regional Director, two projects in the short and long terms have been initiated and are expected to kick off in November.Such a project will come in the recent wake of shortage of cement in the domestic market due to the high demand for his company's product and a dwindling input in production capacity, The Post has learnt.
To Lebras, the company should be able to satisfy the rising demands for cement in the country.Lebras, who was also accompanied by the CIMENCAM Board Chair, Mokoko Bonjo, used the opportunity to announce that studies are underway to set up a cement production plant in the north of country in about three years.
