Some temporary workers of the Douala II council area have been laying siege to the entrance of the Town Hall, in protest for some 12 months of unpaid salaries.
The workers, coincidentally 12 in number have carried on with the strike action for close to a week now. The total amount owed the workers has been estimated at over CFA 5 million.
According to the workers' representative, Simon Ngodikoundi, they (the workers) signed an accord with authorities of the Douala II council since 2006, to work as airport patrol men with a company known by its French name, Aeroport du Cameroon. The contract, the workers say, ended in June this year, and till date, their arrears have not been paid.
They claimed that they have been temporary agents with the company since 2002.
An authority close to the Douala II council, who preferred anonymity, said the problem is not only with the temporary workers, but the whole personnel structure of the council. He held that other workers of the council have already deposited a document containing a threat to go on strike if their demands were not met.
He, however, did not mention what these preoccupations were. So far, an ad hoc commission composed of authorities of the Douala II council and workers' representatives, has been constituted to resolve the problems, not only of the temporary workers currently protesting, but also of the other workers who are threatening to strike.
being a cameroonian is being foolish.cameroonians have a problem, a mental problem.this problem applies to the president, down to the new born baby born today.till you know your problem, then you will know the solution.you cameroonians thinks you dont have a problem, but you have one.
you look at congo ,chad, zimbabwe, and you say these people have a problem , forgeting that you have a problem. you sit in your bars ,drinking beer, discussing about the world, over a beer.you talk of these countries, people, like obama, big dreams, and you think you dont have a mental problem. if i am a cameroonian, i surely have a problem.most of the cameroonian mental is cured when they go abroad, to europe, america.when they get back ,they then see how mentaly disoriented they were.they are strange in the eyes of the normal cameroonian who has never been oversea.
