A young woman was October 6 in the Etoudi neighbourhood of Yaounde caught trying to dump her new born baby in a pit latrine.
Reports say that when 25-year-old Margaret Ngono started labouring, she hid it from her neighbours. But when the labour pains intensified, she sought the toilet of a distant unsuspecting neighbour.
According to reports, Ngono struggled all alone and the baby came out without a hitch.
With the aid of razor blade, the woman is said to have cut the umbilical cord. This action seemed to cause the baby great pain as it cried loudly, alerting the inhabitants of the house.
Sensing foul play, they reportedly rushed to the latrine just to discover that Ngono was forcing the baby into the pit.The baby that had sustained some injuries was wrenched from the mother and both of them were immediately rushed to the Etoudi Health Centre.
According to medical reports, Ngono's life is in apparent danger following the irregular delivery.
Meanwhile, the baby boy is safe. Both of them are receiving treatment.
