Members of the Meme Lawyers Association, MELA, have assured the rainbow team led by incumbent Barrister Charles Tchoungang that they would back them in the upcoming elections.
The members were speaking October 30 in Kumba, at the visit of the executive member of the Cameroon Bar Association, in their campaign tour for a second mandate on November 8.
Speaking on behalf of the lawyers, Barrister Joseph Nnoko stated that Meme lawyers want to laud the initiative of the Tchoungang's executive that has worked diligently.Nnoko said they would throw their support behind them for a second mandate.
However, the lawyer noted that during their last General Assembly election in 2006, Meme lawyers were abandoned and frustrated without lodging in Yaounde.Nnoko promised that they would give their votes in advance to the Rainbow team on if they are sure to have food, drinks, lodging and transportation from the executive members.
Meme lawyers confirmed Nnoko's declaration with thunderous applause. The Bar Council President, on part, said, if it is just food, drinks, transportation and lodging, his executive would do all to meet Meme Lawyers' demands.
Recounting their achievements within two years, Tchoungang said they have created the first-ever website for the Cameroon Bar Association. He said after uncertainty for seven years, they organised Bar I and II examinations and participated in the swearing-in ceremonies of their new colleagues all over the nation.
The president said they have acquired a 3000 metre square piece of land to construct a 17-storey building for the head office of their association. On his part, the President of MELA, Barrister Divine Mboke, said considering the remarkable achievements of the Bar within two years, they have formally endorsed the candidature of Tchoungang.
I will expect my learned barristers in Meme to endorse a candidate who will be able to reform and advance the course of lawyers rather than using food and drinks as a criteria. That is rediculous.

While recommending the Bar President for opening a website for the association, I am calling on him to immediately make sure that every thing on that web site is in English and French.I mean English and French . The Cameroon Bar is not a bar for french-speaking Cameroonians alone; it does not suffice for articles to appear on the site in English. We need the LINKS in English too! Second it is a shame that the major preoccupation of lawyers in Kumba is food and drink. How they sell so cheap!Nkumbe in Freetown

"Just Thinking Aloud"
I just wish to make sure I understood the major pre-occupation of Meme lawyers as far as the Bar is concern. What are the objectives of the Bar? Did they do so well that nothing was left to talk about that the Meme Lawyers ... I will make my comments on this after talking with a prominent Meme lawyer, Barrister Ngenko Lissock Daniel.
