"My intention is to make the orphans of Handicapped Orphanage Training Production & Ecstasy Centre, HOTPEC, Buea and the rural women from Ebonghoneh resident in Mutengene and Tiko feel that they are not forgotten," Dr. Michael Fonge, varsity don from University of Houston and the Houston Community College in the State of Texas, USA, said.

Communing with the HOTPEC orphans and the Ebonghaneh women in Buea, recently, Fonge dolled out a variety of gifts to the orphans and FCFA 1 million to the Ebonghaneh women to help them push forward their socio-economic activities and bar the way for poverty.
"I encourage you my mothers to take care of your children, these orphans you see out here and humanity in general", Fonge told the women. He quickly added: "A good word to a child can change his or her life for good and a bad word can destroy the life of a child."
Deborah Tambe, one of the 85 HOTPEC orphans, expressed gratitude to Dr. Fonge for his sense of sharing with the have-nots and wished that other people of good will follow his example.
Mary Fonka, President Ebonghaneh Women, prayed that their benefactor should be blessed by God and be motivated to do more to other needy communities."We will encourage him by working hard, thanks to the resources he has made available to us," Fonka promised.
According to Fonka, the Ebonghaneh women empower themselves through Trust Funds, carry out self-help activities, organise seminars to build their capacities, learn various trades; eco-farming, poultry farming, eru farming, collective farm projects, production of maize, potatoes as well as a special focus on business management and moral lessons.
Martha Fortek, pioneer President of Ebonghaneh noted that after three decades of existence, their group can boast of some significant achievements."We've ensured that widows amongst us pick up the pieces of their lives and progress, the education of our children up to university level is given pride of place in our respective families, our women have built houses to host their families and more.
Fortek invited other individuals and group of persons to follow in the spirit of Dr. Fonge and make a difference in the lives of people who need assistance.
