The Chairman of the Cardinal
Democratic Party, CDP, Chief Albert Samba Ngwana, has said President Biya will plunge Cameroon into a state of violence by persistently blocking the path towards genuine democracy.
He was speaking to The Post in Douala on February 2, after he despatched a four-page open letter to President Biya titled: "Boycott of ELECAM". Chief Ngwana strongly called on Cameroonians to boycott Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, as well as any elections the body tries to organise.
He insisted that ELECAM is a specialised CPDM organ, charged with organising and rigging elections in favour of the party.Ngwana noted that the Biya regime has stretched the Cameroonian people to the limit, apparently taking advantage of the people's love for peace. Ngwana asserted that with Biya's persistent impediments on the country's part to democracy, Cameroonians might be forced to rise against any attempt by the CPDM organ (ELECAM) to organise elections in the country.
"The truth is that there is yet no independent electoral commission in Cameroon," he argued.Ngwana further argued that in the face of such a situation, it is irrational for an opposition party to go for an election organised by the structure. He insisted that there is no way such a structure can organise free, fair and transparent elections.
The CDP Chair questioned how rational it is for the opposition to go for an election when it is clear that the playground is not level, and thus they can not win. He also noted that since the rebirth of multi party politics in the country, there has been no free and fair elections. He argued that the participation of the opposition in such elections instead plays to the advantage of the regime, which exploits such participations to claim legitimacy for their so-called crushing majority in parliament.
Campaign For International Pressure
Chief Ngwana declared that he would champion the campaign for Cameroonians and the international community to boycott ELECAM in all ways. "Cameroonians shall consider any person or party that cooperates with ELECAM as an enemy of change, an enemy of democracy, an enemy of development and progress and as a traitor.
Let the world know that Cameroon is currently a one-party state, ruled by a life President," he said. The CDP leader said he is going to meet with those he considers as genuine opposition leaders in the country for them to work together to boycott ELECAM.
When quizzed on the SDF's stance that ELECAM should be blocked from organising elections, Ngwana registered his support for such a posture.Ngwana expressed the conviction that if Cameroonians mobilise to get the international community to suspend funds and mount pressure on the Biya regime, the regime will give in. He said the regime will be forced to review the present composition of the membership of ELECAM.
