Fourteen members of the Buea Regional Hospital Annex have been recognised for their devotedness to their corps, institution and service to humanity.The ceremony took place at the campus of the hospital, recently.

The Director of the hospital, Dr. Victor Mbome Njie, said rewarding excellence is a way of motivating the staff to work harder."You also do challenge those who have not been rewarded to equally work harder so that subsequently they too can be distinguished."
Mbome cited some challenges the hospital face which include inadequate personnel, lack of specialists and trained nurses and the necessity to match the infrastructure of the hospital with the increasing population of the municipality and related services such as the teaching hospital for the University of Buea Health Sciences Department.
He urged health authorities, the public and other interested parties to help his hospital meet the aforementioned challenges.The Buea Regional Hospital boss said his administration is looking forward to improve their emergency services and patient waiting time.
Dr Njofi Mosonge, who won the Best Doctor Award, was delighted for the recognition. "I simply do my job and nothing extraordinary. I enjoin my colleagues to do their work wholeheartedly, not necessarily backed by financial gains," she said.
Susan Baapi, was awarded for being the best dressed ward maid while Francis Sako grabbed the award for being the best worker in the Driving and Maintenance Unit. Ida Essambe Londje was recognised for being the best dressed nurse.
Earlier, Prof Peter Martin Ndumbe, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Buea, expressed worry that the health system in the world and in Cameroon in particular is in shambles. "A lot of Cameroonians do not have access to health services as it should be. The trust that society puts on the health practitioner should not be killed for what ever reason(s)," he requested.
Prof. Ndumbe decried the inappropriate way in which some health workers dress, adding that there are three major components in the health sector; the community, multi-sectorality and financing.
On his part, the Southwest Regional Governor, Louis Eyeya Zanga, encouraged the recipients of prizes and those who did not to work harder. "Remember, a healthy nation is a wealthy nation," he advised.
To the Southwest Regional Department of Health, Eyeya Zanga advised them to ferociously combat clandestine health establishments and road-side drugs.
