The traditional ceremony that took place in Mutengene drew hundreds of Bafut denizens clad in colourful traditional attire to the Brasseries Club grounds.
In his message to the new regents, Fon Abumbi emphasized the promotion of the Bafut culture as paramount."You will be responsible for promoting the Bafut culture here in Fako Division for the main purpose of fostering development among the Bafut people," he told the regents.
Mothers, fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers; sons and daughters of Bafut in their various groups of bukams (Fon's advisors,) and butas and bumas (male and female notables) who relay information issuing from the Fon through the bukams down to the commoners, paid their courtesies to the Fon with the traditional three claps of the hand and presents.
As part of the ceremony, the Fon launched a fund raising with FCFA 20,000. At the end of the ceremony, the Bafut gathering collected circa FCFA 1.8 million, which will go to the coffers of the Bafut Development Manjong House.
Earlier on in the day, Mutengene Chief, Dr. Luma Manyaka, represented by Mr. Ndive Mekonge, poured the libation to welcome the Bafut Fon. Various dance groups including the female dominated ngwenjang and the mandere (war) dance, which brought the Fon to his feet, graced the ceremony that stretched through the breezy afternoon into the night.
