A mortuary, a pharmacy and two health facilities were recently inaugurated in Jakiri, Bui Division, by the Northwest Regional Delegate of Public Health, Dr. Victor Ndiforchu.
Dr. Ndiforchu, in his inaugural speech, said the mortuary will now reduce the high cost of transporting corpses from Bamenda and Shisong mortuaries to Jakiri and vice versa. Storing a corpse per night henceforth, will cost only FCFA 3000 instead of FCFA 5000 or 10,000 as charged elsewhere in the Region.
Considering the growing population of Jakiri, Ndiforchu promised to transform the Jakiri Sub-divisional hospital to a full-fledged District Hospital. He, however, warned pharmacy attendants who will dare embezzle funds generated from sale of drugs.
Ndiforchu said he has been forced to close some pharmacies because of embezzlement and insecurity.He equally sent a warning to the hospital staff, saying parallel sale of drugs will not be tolerated.
"Any of the nurses caught selling drugs is no better than the thief who breaks into the hospital pharmacy; the same treatment given to a thief will befall them." To mortuary attendants, he told them not to allow the high-ups of the area borrow mortuary services, because they would never pay their bills after burying their loved ones.
Ndiforchu lavished praises on Hon. Wirngo Buba Kibo, Jakiri Bui South MP, for working hard to ensure that the two projects were realised on record time. "We did the feasibility studies and Wirngo Buba kept knocking at the doors of the Public Health Ministry until these projects were approved in Parliament and Government disbursed funds for their effective realisation," Dr. Ndiforchu remarked.
On his part, Wirngo Buba told the population that government has subsidized the drugs at the new pharmacy. For example, a tablet of paracetamol will cost FCFA 5, malaria drugs will sell from FCFA 300 to FCFA 700, anti-retroviral drugs are free while HIV tests will cost FCFA 500, tuberculosis test; FCFA 1000 and any person placed on TB drugs for six months will pay nothing.
