Like other US Presidents that have held the office before him, and will after him, Obama is always calling on Americans to do this or that for our “children” or “future generations”, although Sasha and Malia Obama, like Chelsea Clinton, or Jenna and Barbara Bush are pretty set for life. It strikes me, however, that I have hardly heard of an African President calling on the country with consistency to make sacrifices for our “children”. Why?
The following piece argues that most fathers in developing countries and communities are glorified sperm donors who, like absentee landlords, only show up at the tenant’s door steps to collect rent, kick out the tenant or sign a new lease. In other words, the responsibility of the father, once the child is born, is to feed and educate … The rest is a list of DO NOTS: Men do not change diapers; do not carry a crying child; are not answerable to the child(ren). Not performing these tasks for our kids, I posit, is directly connected to the wanton looting and embezzlement of Public funds by parents (men), and in total disregard of the kids for whom they should be securing a better future.
